Chapter 2:
Flare the Flareon
The
teenage girl walked down the dirt path, her Flareon at her side. She had just finished in a battle, and was
now on her way to the Pokémon Center, where she intended to drop off her
pokémon for treatment. She reached the
center after another couple of miles.
As she entered, she spotted a group of kids over by the front desk. There were two boys; one wearing a baseball
cap, with a Pikachu perched on his shoulder, one wearing a green vest over a
tan shirt, and a girl, holding a small baby pokémon in her arms. She gave the trio a once-over, then made her
way up to the front desk, her Flareon at her heels.
“Excuse
me, Nurse Joy,” she said politely. “I’d
like to drop off my pokémon for treatment, please.”
“Certainly,
miss,” Nurse Joy replied sweetly. “I’ll
treat these just as soon as possible.”
“No rush,”
the girl replied. “I’ve got plenty of
time.” She looked over and noticed that
the three kids were now looking at her.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to
cut in front of you,” she said apologetically.
“No,
that’s okay,” said the first boy. “You
didn’t cut at all.”
“Yeah,
we’re sorry if we were staring,” the redheaded girl added. “We were just up here talking.”
“It’s
okay,” the teen replied. “My name’s
Jasmyna. Who are you three?”
“I’m Ash,
and this is Pikachu,” said the first boy.
“Pikachu!”
the Pikachu replied.
“My name’s
Misty. This is Togepi,” said the second
girl.
“Togepriiiiii!”
trilled the baby pokémon.
“I’m
Brock, and might I say that you’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever met,” said the
other boy, taking the teen girl’s hands.
“Uh…thanks,”
Jasmyna replied nervously.
As Misty
dragged Brock away from Jasmyna by the ear, Ash attempted an apology. “Sorry about my friend. He gets all weird around pretty girls,” he
said, looking embarrassed.
Jasmyna smiled. “Oh, that’s alright. I really don’t mind,” she responded with a
giggle. “I get that from boys all the
time.”
Ash nodded, then started a new
conversation. “So, you’re a pokémon
trainer?” he asked.
“Yep, sure am,” she replied.
“For how long?”
“I’d say about 9 years.”
“Have you been to the Indigo
League?”
“I won it my first year.”
“Orange League?”
“Hall of Fame, two years
running.”
“What about the Johto League?”
“I lost it my first time.”
“Would this be your second?”
“Yep, sure is.”
“Oh. This is my first time.”
“Wow, you must be a really good
trainer,” Jasmyna grinned at Ash.
“Uh…pretty good,” Ash replied
with a nervous laugh. He then looked
down at Jasmyna’s Flareon. “How long
have you been training your Flareon?” he asked.
Jasmyna leaned over and picked up
her Flareon. “About a year,” she
answered stroking her Flareon.
Ash reached over and began to pet
the Flareon. “You haven’t had it for a
long time, have you?” he questioned the teen.
Jasmyna just looked at Ash. “No, I’ve had her as an Eevee since I was a
little girl, but I’ve been training her as a Flareon for almost a year,” she
said with a small grin.
“Oh,” was all Ash said. “Does she have a name?”
“Yep, her name is Flare,” Jasmyna
replied.
“Flare the Flareon,” Ash said
thoughtfully. “I like it, Jasmyna. It fits her perfectly.”
“Thanks,” she said,
blushing. She then looked over at the
clock on the wall. “Well, I have some
stuff to do while I’m here, so I guess I’d better get moving. It was nice meeting you, Ash. I’ll see you later,” Jasmyna stood up, still
holding Flare, and went off to a room in the back.
“See you,” Ash called.
“Pika Pika!” Pikachu called out,
waving his small arms. He, too, went to
the back with his trainer.
