Under the Mistletoe

By Shadow Pikachu and Shadow Squirtle

“You’ve got to be kidding me! It’s all gone! All of it?” a boy of jet black hair exclaimed exasperated.

“Yep. Miss expensive taste coordinator bought the most expensive outfits, seals, and props,” a taller and older boy with brown hair sighed.

“Sorry,” a young girl stated.

“Even my special account?!” the first boy nearly shouted.

“Yep,” second boy sighed.

“How’d she get my combination?” the first questioned.

“It was easy, Ash. Knowing you I knew what combination to use. It was really simple. I really needed the money,” the girl said.

“But did you have to use all of it?!” the boy called Ash exclaimed, “Surely there was no way that you could have spent it all?”

“Sorry, but I bought things for Christmas for all my family, friends and pokemon too!” the girl said.

“But all $5,000?!” Ash cried.

“Sorry!” the girl snapped.

Ash crumpled to the ground, “I was so close to my goal.”

“Huh?” the girl questioned.

“Dawn, you really should have asked. Ash was saving that for a special gift for someone,” the older boy said.

“What could he have gotten for $5,000? I didn’t think that it was fair how he hogged all the money, Brock, so I thought that it be fair for me to take some. It just turned out more than I originally thought,” Dawn said.

“Dawn, I was going to buy an engagement ring for the girl that I love with that money and get her some of her favorite things. That was my goal for Christmas. Now she’ll be coming here and I won’t have a thing to get her,” Ash whined on the floor.
Dawn’s face paled. Brock turned his head and something caught his eye.

“Hey what’s that?” he whispered, “A Christmas singing contest? Winning cash prize…$5,000! Plus an all expense paid meal at your restaurant of your choice!”

Ash was up and beside Brock in a flash.

“What are the rules?” he asked.

“It doesn’t say,” Brock stated.

Dawn was trying to sneak away but Ash grabbed her.

“Oh no you don’t. You spent all the money and, so help Golem, you’ll earn it all back,” Ash said.

“But what if I don’t win?” she questioned.

“Don’t worry, Brock and I will also be joining. But it’s either join this or find another way to pay me back by Christmas,” Ash said, coldly.

“Ok. OK! When is it?” she questioned.

“In two hours No entry fee. Just go in and sign up. Sounds simple enough. Let’s go get ready,” Brock suggested.

“Right!” the other two agreed.

+Two Hours Later+

“All righty! Time to start our annual Christmas Carol singing contest. As you know, we broadcast this live so watch your mouths! Now, let’s meet our judges.” the announcer lady said, “Our first judge, all the way from Kanto on his Pokemon Journey, please welcome, Richie!”

“It’s a pleasure to be here! I don’t know exactly why I’m here but I will do my best!” Richie said, excitedly.

“Our next judge is Sinnoh’s very own, Nando! He’s not only a trainer on a journey, but a coordinator as well!” the lady exclaimed.

“It is truly an honor to be here. Let me hear your voices reaching forth to capture our hearts in the joy the songs bring,” Nando said, strumming his little mew harp thingy.

“And finally, we have Gary Oak from Pallet Town, Kanto! He’s the son of the famous Professor Samuel Oak!” she said, very happy.

“Thanks! Let the songs begin!” Gary simply stated.

Ash was standing off stage thinking about the judges. Strange how he knew all of them.

“On to the contestants. First off we have Brock Slate from Pewter City Kanto!” She introduce.

‘Good luck, Brock,’ Ash thought.

“I will be singing I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause,” Brock said, once on stage:

“I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
She didn't see me creep
Down the stairs to have a peep;
She thought that I was tucked up in my bedroom fast asleep.
Then, I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Daddy had only seen
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night.”

“Now let’s see how the judges thought of it,” the lady said, grimacing and holding her ear.

“Well, Brock, keep practicing. It’s good but it still needs work. I give you a 5 out of 10,” Richie said.

“Do not cover up your soul whilst you sing. It makes an enormous difference. I give you a 5 out of 10,” Nando said.

“Brock, you stunk. I don’t know what these two were listening to, but you almost made my ears bleed. I give you 1,” Gary said bluntly.

“Thank you judges and thank you Brock,” the lady said.

“These scores mean nothing to me. I would gladly sing for you every night if so you wished-” Brock started to flirt when Croagunk Poison Jabbed him, “Or, maybe I still need to work on my act.”

Ash sat backstage, listening to all the acts. They were all so horrible. Not as bad as Brock’s but bad.

“Ok. Next we have Dawn from Twinleaf Town,” the lady announced.

“Hi! I’ll be singing Santa Baby,” Dawn said. Ash rubbed his temples, “ Here goes!

Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me

I've been an awful good girl

Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, an out-of-space convertible too, light blue

I'll wait up for you dear Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed

Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed

Next year I could be oh so good

If you'd check off my Christmas list

Boo doo bee doo

Santa honey, I wanna yacht and really that's

Not a lot

I've been an angel all year

Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, there's one thing I really do need, the deed

To a platinum mine

Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, I'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks

Sign your 'X' on the line

Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree

With some decorations bought at Tiffany's

I really do believe in you

Let's see if you believe in me

Boo doo bee doo

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring

I don't mean a phone

Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Hurry down the chimney tonight

Hurry down the chimney tonight

Thank you!”

Ash tried to hide his grimace as Dawn walked past him. She was almost as bad as Brock. The judges said nearly the same exact thing for Dawn. SO while Ash awaited his turn, he heard the most beautiful song to ever bless his ears.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
in the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
we're happy tonight,
walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
as we go along,
walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
we'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
when you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
as we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
the plans that we've made,
walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
and pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
until the other kiddies knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
walking in a winter wonderland.

Walking in a winter wonderland,
walking in a winter wonderland.

Ash gulped. She had gotten a perfect score. And he was last. How was he supposed to compete with that.

“Our final contestant is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town!” the lacy called out.

Ash nervously stepped onto stage.

“Hello. I’ll be singing The Christmas Song,” Ash said. He took a deep breath:

“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some
Mistletoe help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies
On his sleigh
And ev'ry mother's
Child is gonna spy to see if
Reindeer really know how to fly

And so, I'm offering this
Simple phrase to kids from
One to ninety-two
Altho' it's been said many times
Many ways; "Merry Christmas to you"

Ash waited for the worst, but it never came.

“Ash…Wow,” Richie said, “I give you a 10 out of 10!” Richie exclaimed, joyfully.

‘Well, that’s surprising,’ Ash thought.

“Such beauty, so much emotion. Tell me, who do you sing for?” Nando asked.

‘Figured as much,’ Ash thought.

“Well, you see, I really need to get this money so that I can find the perfect ring for the girl I love. I’d do anything for her. So I guess, I sing for her,” Ash said, rubbing the back of his head, blushing a little.

“Beautiful. I give you a 10 out of 10,” Nando said rather excited himself.

Ash now was starting to get rather excited about having a chance. But then he remembered Gary.

“Ash. When you talk, no one would ever think that you could sing so well. And I personally know that you haven’t always been this good of a singer. You’ve improved a lot since the last time I heard you sing. I give you a…” Gary said, pausing to think. Then his face gained an evil smirk. Not a good sign, “10 out of 10.”

Ash jumped into the air, rejoicing the fact that he might have been able to get the ring in time.

“Well, that means that we have a tie! So, if our other winner would come out, we can pick our duet out a song,” the lady announced.

“Duet?” Ash thought a loud.

“Ash?” a very familiar voice sounded.

He turned and saw a girl with orange hair and aquatic eyes behind him.

“Misty?!” Ash cried, voice breaking.

“You’re the person I tied with?” Misty said, not believing the fact.

“I thought that was you singing earlier,” Ash said, hugging her tight.

“Well, isn’t that cute!” the lady cooed. Then an idea appeared in her head, “I’ve got the perfect song for these two lovebirds!”

Gary and Richie slapped their foreheads. She just hit the nerve that you never dare come near on Ash and Misty.

“WE AREN’T LOVEBIRDS!!!!” they shouted at the lady in perfect unison.

“Ok. Ah! Here we go. Now, you two will sing this duet. And whoever sings their part better will win the prize!” the lady chirped, “Ready?”

Under the mistletoe started to play. Ash and Misty slapped their foreheads. Of course this would be the song! Ash sighed and took a deep breath.

There’s a feeling I’m getting I just can’t explain

Making me glad tonight

Maybe it’s Christmas, maybe the snow

Maybe the mistletoe

Misty smiled. She stepped forward and decided to give Ash a run for his money.

There’s a secret I’m keeping, that no one can hear

A feeling deep in my heart

Maybe this Chrismas, my true love will show

Under the mistletoe

Ash smiled at her. So, she wanted to make this a battle of voices? He accepted.

Jolly old saint Nicholos, before the night is through

There’s something very special that I’d like to say to you

Merry, Merry Christmas! And I’d like you to know:

I’m hoping that I’ll meet someone under the mistletoe!

Now there’s a crowd at the party

Our friends are all here

Everyone’s warm and bright

Maybe I’ll meet him where hearts are a glow

Under the mistletoe

Maybe I’ll just stand here, and no one will know

I’m under the mistletoe

Boy this party sure is crowded. Hey, wait a minute. There’s Christmas cookies over there! Let’s go get some Pikachu!

Pika!

Hi Ash!

Oh, hi Misty.

Great party, huh?

Yeah, we were just going to go get something to eat.

Hey! Did you see Nurse Joy?

Yeah, maybe you should go tell Brock.

Maybe not.

Anyway, can we squeeze past you? We’re pretty hungry.

Oh, sure. Ok.

(Struggling sounds. Even though in the performance, they were trying to untangle themselves! ;p)

Jolly old Saint Nicholos, before the night is through

(Jolly old Saint Nicholos, before the night is through)

There’s something very special that I’d like to say to you

(There’s something very special that I’d like to say to you)

Merry, Merry Christmas! And I’d like you to know:

I’m hoping that I don’t get caught under the mistletoe!

There’s a crowd at the party

Our Friends are all here

Everyone’s warm and bright!

Ash and Misty finally noticed that they were holding hands. They weren’t singing to the judges. They were singing to each other of their love. Misty smiled and looked into Ash’s eyes.

Maybe he’ll find out, you just never know

Under the mistletoe

Maybe I’ll stand here, maybe I’ll go

Maybe this Christmas I might let him know

Maybe this Christmas, I might just get- uh oh!

Hi, Ash! Did you get something to eat?

Uh-Yeah

Um…Ash? Did you realize we’re standing under the mistletoe?

Huh?

Ash looked up and sure enough, Pikachu was holding mistletoe over them. Ash just shook his head. Then he leaned in a placed a kiss on Misty’s left cheek and then went on with the last parts of the song.

Under the mistletoe! (5x)

For the last three under the mistletoes, Ash started to twirl Misty around. After the song, the judges had disappeared. Ash knew where. They went to see if there was a camera that had the tape ready.

“Well, I guess we have to winners! We’ll send you two a check within the next day. But on to your date at a restaurant of your choice!” the lady exclaimed.

Ash looked at Misty. Misty just looked back up at him and smiled.

“Forget those reservations. We’ve had a change of plans,” Ash smiled, “Why don’ you give them to the runner ups?”

With that, Ash left with Misty. He was actually kinda glad that Dawn had spent on of his money. If she hadn’t, there was no way that he could have met Misty under the mistletoe.
