Chapter 2
Bruno was surprisingly easy to find, and quite ready to turn the tables in the war – if it still counted as war. He told Red how Lorelei and Agatha went to Four Island, but no one knows where Lance went, though Bruno suspects Whirl Islands because Lance was always obsessed with Lugia.
Red thanks him, and heads to Seafoam. Hefs not a complete idiot, and since Lorelei is an Ice Master, she might be there. Also, itfs one of the few areas that isnft too badly pollutedc
Lorelei is there, though the fact that he has to nearly kill a Dragonite to get inside gives him a very good idea of who else might be here, but he finds Lorelei, and when he talks to her, she tells him in a cold dead voice that Agatha died of a heart attack two years ago, isnft he a bit late, and hands him her poke balls almost willingly.
He canft take them.
Thisc isnft what he wanted to find.
He thought the Elite Four would be brilliant bright, still shining heroes, but therefs nothing resembling sanity in Loreleifs hollow eyes, so he canft wait to escape.
He takes her pokémon, and hefs almost at the exit when he sees Lance. Of course! He should have expected the Dragon Master.
If Lance left Dragonite to protect Lorelei, who may or may not be his wife according to the rumors, then when Dragonite was defeatedc
Lancefs eyes are sharp pinpoints of golden flame, and he says nothing as Ash stammers through an explanation, feeling ten years old once again. Finally, the Dragon Master shakes his head and turns to his Aerodactyl.
gIf there is nothing better to do.h He says.
Ash shivers, and wonders if Lorelei and Lance really were married, and if so, what happened between them.
Lance runs his fingers over the edge of Aerodactylfs wings with a strange smile, and then tells Ash hefs heard Erika and Koga are hiding out near Fuchsia, he might want to check it out of hefs being serious.
Ash takes his advice, but it smarts.
Why is Lance being such a bastard anyways?
Sure, hefs changed, everyone has changed, but even soc in this world of hell, what goodness is left?
Is Lance broken?
Ash sees nothing except the blank eyes, so he isnft sure. He asks if Lance will come along, and the Dragon Master remarks that he has nothing better to do, before climbing on Aerodactylfs back.
Ash isnft sure if he should use Loreleifs pokémon. Should he give them to Lance? Should he keep them?
What to do?
Finally, he stows them for now and calls out his Charizard, and they both fly towards Fuchsia.
Itfs a short ride, and hefs glad he doesnft have to deal with hordes of Tentacool and Tentacruel – Pikachu was so tired after they arrived at Seafoam, that he had to use Squirtle and Bulbasaur against Lancefs Dragonite, and when that didnft work, hefd pulled out Donphan.
That had finally done it, the Rollout and Defense Curl combinationc
In Fuchsia, they see poison gas wreathing the entire town in green and Ash reaches into his pack for his gas mask, wondering what Lance will do. He doesnft seem to be carrying anythingc
Lance simply smiles, and releases his Gyarados, and it surrounds him in a kind of bubble shield.
They walk in.
