Red is an only child, and he rather likes it that way. There is no one around to take Father’s attention away from him, and even though the house should seem empty with just two people living in it, if one counts all the pokémon underfoot it is quite lively indeed!

He’s not sure he’d deal well with siblings, anyhow, and so when Father asks him one night if he is lonely, he just stares, wide-eyed, before he flings himself into Father’s arms, asking if he’s not enough.

Lance reassures Red that he’s all he needs, and Red relaxes.

Lance doesn’t bring up adoption again, not even the merest hint of it, and by the time Red gets over his possessive streak, they are already doing things no one else should see anyway, so he has no complaints.

He didn’t actually want more children. He just wants Red to be happy, and if Red is happy with only him, well…

Does it matter if they aren’t a perfect nuclear family?
