The first time Max sees Ash, it’s on television. He’s watching the Silver Conference live, and he notices the older boy with the spiky black hair and the devil may care smile. He thinks he falls in love at first sight, and Max wishes with all his heart that he could meet his idol in the future.

Max does some research afterwards, and he learns that Ash was the sixteenth finalist in the Indigo League, and he won the Orange Islands League and became Champion there. That’s really cool! He knows all of Ash’s pokemon by heart, from his trademark Pikachu down to the Tauros and Muk he’s only used once or twice, and he absorbs all the information like a sponge.

Ash doesn’t win the Silver Conference, since he loses to Harrison, but that doesn’t matter. Maybe, Max hopes, he’ll come to Houen next and challenge their league.

And Ash does! He shows up in Petalburg City, and even though Max is so shocked that the first thing he blurts out is hardly complimentary and he calls Ash ‘Alf’ by accident, it doesn’t matter. With enough begging, his father agrees to let him travel with Ash, and now, he has time to win Ash’s heart.

It’s cute in small doses, but I still <3 championshipping best!

Besides, Max called Ash ‘Satora’ not ‘Satoshi’ four times and ‘a loser’ at least as many times the first time they met, so I doubt Ash liked him at first sight. More like hate...

At least Max isn’t as abusive as Paul the fucker though!
