May can be feisty and fiery, but she’s not a total nut job like Misty, and she isn’t mallet-happy. These are very important points to Ash, and she blushes cutely when he asks her out for the first time.

It’s not that much a proper date, since they don’t do dinner and a movie, just an afternoon at a lake with a picnic basket full of sandwiches Delia made with a smile. But May bites into her tuna fish sandwich with a grin, and Ash pours lemonade for them both, and it’s nice.

“So, why me?” May asks.

Ash scratches his head a bit bashfully. “You’re cute. And nice.”

The Petalburg girl grins, and pecks him on the cheek. “Okay.”

He blushes, and decides not to compare her to Misty.
