“Lance?” Red asked, as his Pikachu expertly welded two wires together. “Do you think we are doing the right thing?”

Lance glanced at his partner, surprised, golden eyes bright behind his goggles. “Yes. Are you having doubts now?”

Red managed a sheepish nod. “It just seems so cruel…”

“Sacrifices have to be made, love. You know that.”

“I know, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.” Red sighed. “It’s always the same. Someone has to give.”

Lance gave a casual shrug, as he turned to his Dragonite. “We’re ready.” He said slowly. Dragonite huffed, before Lance and Red climbed on.

Pikachu scampered onto Red’s shoulder, and they flew away. Not five minutes later, the building exploded in a shower of stone and mortar.
