He wants to punch the smirk off Paul’s face.

Brock usually isn’t prone to violence. He’s the peacemaker of the group, but when Paul calls Ash a waste of space, he loses it. He knows that Ash can be naïve and foolish, but he’s kind-hearted and disparaging that is just being a bastard.

Ash looks shocked, and Brock sighs. There’s no point in trying to become friends with someone like that. Ash will just get hurt.

The boy should take better care of himself, physically and emotionally.

Dawn shouts at Paul as he leaves, and Brock pats Ash on the shoulder.

“Don’t let him get you down.”

Ash frowns. “I…” He’s not a useless trainer! He won the Orange League, and he has lots of badges, so why is Paul…

Brock claps Ash on the back again, wishing he could do more, and picks up the map. Ash doesn’t angst, so he should be back to normal within a few hours. He won’t let someone like this get him down.

Even so, Brock still hates Paul.
