Part 10: The unknown dungeon revised
"I told you that we would run into a problem," said Maruis Xeroxes the destruction focus holder in human form. He was a tall man with shoulder length purple-white hair done in a ponytail. He was dressed in a black leather jacket, maroon jeans, a white t-shirt and black boots. He had a pale complexion and purple eyes. He was speaking to Philip Atlas the ground focus holder and Leslie Couriga the fighting focus holder, who were both in human form. Philip was about as tall as Marius, but allot thinner. He was wearing a cap with the Gaia's wave symbol on it. He was wearing a brown sweater, dark brown slacks, with black cross trainers. The cap covered his brown spiky hair, and shaded his dark red eyes. Leslie was a petite athletic woman in a brown karate gi with oriental features. She was wearing a black belt and brown fingerless fighting gloves. She had shoulder length brown hair that was swept back behind her ears and brown eyes.
"So this bluff is in the way," said Leslie. "Why don't we just climb it?" "Why waste the energy when we can simply walk back through Cerulean City, go up Route 24 and surf back here to route 4?" asked in response Philip. "One, that would take to long. We are already two days behind the others. We took that unexpected detour and had to go the scenic route," Marius said. "You mean we got lost," said Philip. "Two," said Marius glaring at him, "None of us know surf." "And three, we can simply walk up the path right there," said Leslie. "Why didn't you say that earlier," said annoyed Philip. "Because it won't have been much training to merely walk up the path," said the black belt. Philip just sighed and picked up his walking staff.
Marius's team had gotten "side tracked" during the storm and ended up going all the way to Lavender Town. This was because Philip had to help some phanpy who had gotten stuck in a flooded river near the Rock Tunnel. Then they got lost on route 10 and lost another day. As it was, the only other team that was still out was Justin's.
When they reached the top of the bluff, they discovered a girl who had gray eyes, long brown hair, and black jeans with a white T-shirt on. She was about 5'11 to 6'1 feet tall, had a jean jacket. She turned around and the group noticed a mark on her forehead in the shape of a star. She had been looking at a collapsed tunnel in the side of a cliff. When she realized she was not alone, she turned and dashed off into some nearby bushes.
"That was weird," said Marius. "She was probably a criminal or something." "Don't jump to such a negative conclusion," said Leslie. "Any way let's find a way into this cave. The pokemon we are looking for is around," said Philip. He examined the cave-in very closely using the morning sunlight to his advantage. "I can dig through this," he announced, "But it will take some time." Maruis calmly walked next to him and out stretched his right arm, his palm facing the rock wall. "Shockwave!" he screamed as a pulse of pure destructive force blasted the landslide in to pebbles and dust. The door to the Unknown Dungeon was open.
{Attack: Shockwave Type: (Destruction) At: 600 Ar: 100% A wave of invisible, devastating force is sent forward. Any matter in its path is reduced to smaller components. High critical hit ratio.}
"There, now we won't have to waste anymore time," said a smirking Maruis. "Except for the time it will take to dig you out," said a smiling Philip. Maruis looked up when he heard a rumbling. He noticed a large amount of rocks about to fall on him in a natural rockslide. "Brunt cookies," he said sadly as he was buried. Luckily, the cave was still open. It took Philip just 15 minutes to dig Maruis out with out causing another rockslide. Philip, Leslie, and a now slightly battered Maruis stood at the cave's mouth ready to enter the unknown when a voice called to them from behind.
"Excuse me? Do you know where we can find single pokemon designation 150 Mewtwo?" Asked the voice as they turned around. Hovering in front of them were two clear cubes filled with what looked like static. The cubes had a square fin sticking out of the top face, starting from the back and going about mid-way of the face. "Um, what are you?" asked Leslie. "We are blanks. Shape-shifting poke-demons created by our master to copy the legendary pokemon and destroy them. Then we will either take their keys or their place in order to betray the circle," replied the left blank or blank number 1.
"Well then, we haven't seen that pokemon," answered Phillip. "Oh. Well have you seen pokemon designation 250 Ho-oh?" asked the same blank. "Nope, haven't seen that one either," responded Phillip again. "In that case, have a nice day," said blank number 2. They both disappeared in a burst of static. "That was weirder," said Maruis. "Friendly, for creatures of evil," said Phillip.
The group walked into the cave. As their eyes adjusted to the gloom, they noticed an underground river flowing deeper into the caverns. Zubats flew over their heads, their pings heard faintly with there enhanced hearing. The cave's walls changed from ugly brown to a wild array of colors and fantastic shapes as the group went deeper in, following the winding river.
As they were walking in silence, the group noticed a chansey ahead of them. She was standing at an intersection of different paths. The chansey spun around when they approached, and rushed them in a blitzkrieg assault. "Just what is your problem?" yelled Marius who had just ducked a Mega Punch. "Yeah, what did we ever do to you?" cried an equally surprised Phillip dodging a Headbutt. *Nothing personal, its just that you guys are food, * said the chansey backing off to resize her opponents. "Oh in that case," said Leslie as she walked between the chansey and Phillip and Marius, "Let's get it on!"
Leslie punched in front of her and a circle of maroon red energy formed in front of her fist. Her symbol formed in the circle, then it moved back over her, creating what looked like a fireball. And with a war cry and a spinning roundhouse, the maroon energy exploded in a flash to reveal a hitmonlee standing in a combat stance.
The chansey was a bit taken aback at this sudden change. Leslie dashed forward and struck first with Mach Punch. While she was reeling from the fast hit, she executed a quick Thrust Kick to her mid-section, and a Roundhouse Kick to the head, which sent the chansey spinning through the air away from her.
{Attack: Thrust Kick Type (Fighting) At: 130 Ar: 100% A quick kick to the target using the full force of the leg. 30% chance of causing the target to flinch.
Attack: Roundhouse Kick Type (Fighting) At: 260 Ar: 80% A strong spinning kick to the target. }
The chansey slowly stood up and looked at Leslie, who was in yet another stance. *Not bad. Just what we would expect from a fighting type, * she said. *We? * asked a confused Leslie. *Attack! * she screamed. Out of the various openings masses of chanseys poured out. Some even climbed out of the river. The all had on war paint and some of them were carrying sharpened rocks and crude spears. *Now what do say to this, * said the lead chansey. Leslie just said nothing and executed Nail Drop attack on her, effectively knocking her out.
{Attack: Nail Drop Type: (Fighting) At: 300 Ar: 100% The user kicks the target's feet from under them, while pulling down on one of the targets arms/limbs. This flips the target upside down. While they are still in the air, the user grabs there, feet/other limbs with the other hand, and slams them headfirst into the ground. 15% chance of an instant faint}
*Chi Fist! * she screamed launching a blast, which cleared a path through the savage chansey swarm. *Come on! I don't want to find out if we can live through being eaten. The group dashed deeper into the caves, Leslie in the lead. Marius was levitating slightly and Philip was using March in order to keep up.
{Attack: March Type: (Ground) At: 0 Ar: 100% The user marches rapidly in place in order to gain speed. Speed temporally rises two levels.
Attack: Chi Fist Type: (Fighting) At: 350 Ar: 100% The user pulls back a fist and gathers chi energy into it. The user then punches forward in a jab and releases the energy in a blast of energy the plows through any thing in its path. 1st turn: gather energy, 2nd turn: fire blast. }
After losing the hostile pokemon after a two hour long chase, the group continued to search for the strong pokemon that was supposed to be in the area.
The group continued through the caverns, occasionally taking breaks to rest. As the explored Leslie seemed to become more detached from her surroundings. During a short period of spelunking, Leslie, still a pokemon, stopped in the mid of a passage. The other two stopped and looked back at her. "What are you doing?" asked Phillip staring at her as she searched the high domed passage. Leslie suddenly kicked to the left, hitting the wall with enough force to cause the whole cavern to shake. "Are you crazy? You're going to bury us!" exclaimed Marius and Phillip respectively. She looked at them for a moment, and then did a quick back flip from under the falling graveler. She walked up to the stunned pokemon and asked, *why are you following us? *
The large rock type shook off the impact and looked at her. *Um, well you see, got to go! * he exclaimed suddenly digging into the ground. Leslie and Marius looked at the hole then at Phillip. "He's long gone now," he sighed. "I couldn't unless he was stupid enough to try to attack us." *Well in that case, let's keep moving. * Leslie stated.
After another hour of aimless searching, Marius finally remembered he could sense strong powers in his pokemon form when the reached a cavern with a large lake in the middle. His eyes started to glow an eerie sliver, as a circle with black hole inscribed in it appeared in front of him. He levitated off the ground in behind it. It turned transparent and moved toward him to form a vertical ring around him. The ring started to spin, forming a glowing pale blue ball of destructive force. With a cry of power it exploded, destroying the very air and ground in a shock wave of power. Where once a man stood, now a mewtwo was in his place. As he lightly landed in the shallow crater he had formed, Marius's eye's flashed sliver.
A short time later, the holders came to a large set of double doors at the end of a tunnel.
*Well watch this, Tremor Strike! * Phillip yelled punching the ground with is right hand, sending a tremor to the doors causing them to collapse into dust.
{Attack: Tremor Strike Type: (Ground) At: 190 Ar: 100% A small wave of sand and dust travels from the user. The wave hits the target, causing them to shake apart. 10% chance of lowering the targets defense. }
Phillip, Leslie and Marius were preparing to leave. They were standing directly on a sandy shore, looking over the ocean. Phillip was going to dig a tunnel to the mainland. Before he got started however, Justin called Marius over to him. *Before you go, there is something I want you to do, * said the big dragon pokemon.
{Present}
sent Mewtwo as he stood up from his throne like chair. Maruis nodded then raised an arm and fired his Positron Rifle attack.
{Attack: Positron Rifle Type: (Destruction) At: 780 Ar: 100% A huge white beam of destructive power is fired towards a target. It will go through the target, causing it to implode and be draggled into the beam. Nothing is left of the target. Said to be able to fire through to different dimensions. 30% chance of causing an instant faint, 70% chance of killing the target}
Mewtwo quickly levitated up, avoiding the deadly beam. The wall behind him disintegrated as the beam passed through it. Mewtwo countered with a Psy-bomb assault. Maruis took to the air also to avoid the attacks. Phillip and Leslie barely got out of the way in time as the vicious spheres ripped by, and blew up in the tunnel behind them. Mewtwo streaked toward Maruis with his fists burning, intending to Fire Punch him. But Maruis dashed forward, his hands on fire too. Fire met fire and a huge explosion tore the air. When the smoke cleared, the two titans were floating in a clear orb, locked in a test of strength. They locked eyes each trying to destroy the other's mind. The physical and psychic stalemate ended when they both launched a Psychic attack from point blank range. They were blown back with incredible force. The two combatants smashed into opposite walls. They quickly recovered. Mewtwo put up a Psychic Shield and dashed into Maruis who recovered a tad too slow. He crushed him into the wall filling the air with dust from the impact. Beams of light cut through the dust as Mewtwo was blown back by Maruis Blast Away attack.
{Attack: Blast Away Type: (Destruction) At: 620 Ar: 80% The user throws off a huge amount of energy that blows the target back. Target must be close. Always causes the target to flinch. }
Phillip and Leslie watched from behind a rock column. Phillip was using his General Control of the ground to keep the cavern from caving in.
{Purelight: General Control isn't an attack per se. It is just the elemental control all pokemon have, like water types being able to breath underwater or poison types being able to absorb infinite amounts of poisons. The focus holder's control extends farther and is greater then a normal pokemon's. }
*Why is Maruis holding back? * Leslie asked as she saw him fire an ice beam. *He said he was testing him. Maybe he isn't being serious, * Phillip responded. Mewtwo had enough. His eyes began to glow an eerie blue as he gathered psychic power. Maruis floated patiently. Mewtwo fired a deadly Telekinetic Blast.
{Attack: Telekinetic Blast Type: (Psychic) At: 300 Ar: 100% A blast of psychic power is fired in a glowing fiery beam. It takes a turn to charge however. 30% chance of killing the target}
The blast smashed into him, and Leslie and Phillip had to shield their eyes from the intense light. The whole cavern shook and Phillip had a hard time keeping it from caving in. Mewtwo smirked as the energy dissipated, but quickly frowned when he noticed that Maruis was floating perfectly fine in a clear shield of some sort. Maruis floated down to the ground, his shield actually destroyed the ground when it touched it.
*I'm glad that's over, * said a cheerful Phillip to Mewtwo, Maruis and Leslie. * I agree. But what did you learn from all of this. I learned that fighting people weaker then myself is wrong unless they are in greater number, * Leslie said. Maruis sent. *I learned that I should bring a compass while hiking, * said Phillip.
{Attack: The Final Moment Type: (Destruction) At: 4250 Ar: 100% A strange attack where all affected are transposed to another dimension. That phase space is collapsed back into the original dimension. After that, everything in the eight-mile effective sphere is wiped out of existence. If destruction/rainbow/void types do it, 100% chance of killing everything in affected area. }
The now level 100 togepi stared around at the new valley. He shrugged as best as a togepi could and started to climb out to go back to Cerulean City, leaving the behind four unconscious forms.
The first thought the Marius had was (I hate togepi's who know metronome).
The two mewtwos left the room and walked down a curved hallway. As they went down the hall, the passed several other rooms like the one they had just left.
Maruis walked down a brown path trough some trees. Cries of other pokémon surrounded him. Sunflora closed their petals to the dying sun as he walked toward the center of the dome. He passed under a white arch and through some ivy hanging in front of him. And found his companions sitting in a clearing with a fountain in the middle. Leslie was standing on one foot; the other was on the forehead of the graveler they had seen in the unknown dungeon. Philip was sitting on the rim of the fountain; his bone was leaning against the side of it.
*No disrespect, but for the last time, I will not go out with you, * Leslie said to the graveler. *Just knock him out already or something, * Philip said. *We have to get Maruis and go. *
< Long enough. As to what I know… Dr. and Prof. Burch were two of the foremost leading pokémon scientists in there fields. Dr. Eli Burch was a master at pokémon genetics and bioengineering. His wife Prof. Elan Burch was one of the top experts in pokémon psychology. She also specialized in human and pokémon relationships in the wild too, which allowed her to sponsor starting trainers. The facility that they operated was a large five-dome structure in the Mt. Moon range, northwest of Cerulean City. This is we are now. > sent Maruis.
"And it looks like you have found what you are looking for," said a kind and understanding voice. Three pair's of eyes turned toward the voice to behold a 46-year-old woman in a white lab coat. She had brunette hair that reached down to her neck and was a pair of square glasses over here brown eyes. She was wearing a light gray turtleneck sweater and a pair of dark gray causal slacks and black shoes. Next to her was the same girl from in front of the caves.
As Maruis floated the graveler, who now had a large lump on his head, down the hall he came out of, the others asked questions about Kryis's past. Maruis translated them to her, and she answered. Kryis was a trainer from Cerulean City. She biked up to kelp the Birches on weekends. Right now she was helping the professor get some data so she could return to planning the convention in Pewter City next week. She currently had three pokemon with her and would introduce them later. However as soon as the opened the door to the medical area they ran into a huge shock!
A meowth was stating in battle position hissing at a strange scrambled creature in a corner. Most of the room was in disarray and medical equipment was spilled everywhere. Behind the meowth was two mewtwo, one with a nurse's hat, and the other with more then a few bandages. Also there was a 48-year-old man with sandy blond hair in a white lab coat. Underneath this coat he was wearing a black shirt and black slacks with black shoes. They couldn't see his face, but from the looks of things it seems that he probably was as shocked as them.
The static shifted and molded and finally what stood before the astonished watchers was a perfect copy of Mewtwo. sent the blank in Mewtwo's voice. *Maruis think we can take this loser? * asked Phillip.
{Attack: Annihilation Type: Destruction At: 120-620 Ar: 0-100% A clear field of destructive force is formed around the user. It destroys all energy and matter that comes in contact with it. It can be maintained as a shield or expanded in an explosion. However it is hard to maintain this attack for prolonged use due to its high-energy costs. }
Meanwhile, the battle outside was not going well. Because the blank knew levitation, none of Phillips attacks could reach him. He spent most of his time underground avoiding the many Psy-bombs the blank threw at him every time his head left from underground. Maruis wasn't doing much better. Two high-level battles and recovering from an UA had left him with little energy to launch his extremely destructive attacks. He dodged between pine trees as the blank fired a Swift attack. A few of the speeding stars struck; otherwise the trees took most of the impact. He responded with an ice beam in attempt to ground him, but the blank agilely dodged it. (If this keeps up, I am going to revert. And I don't think Phillip can handle this guy alone,) he thought as he dodged a Psychic attack.
Kryis ran in the direction of the battle. The evening air pulsed in out of the 15 year olds lungs as she ran to catch up. Leslie had informed her of the situation; backed up by both scientists. She hopped over another underground tunnel as she hurried to reach the battlefield. Maruis plowed into the ground after taking a well-placed Mega Kick. The blank landed and stared coldly at the tired mewtwo. Phillip exploded out of the ground in a Dig attack, but the blank just bushed the blow off. Phillip backed up to Maruis who was leaning against a tree. *Any ideas on how to beat this guy, * He asked.
The blank gathered energy and released another Psychic attack. The pulse of mental energy blasted the two back. They landed roughly as Kryis finally reached the battlefield. "Guys, Leslie filled me in on what is going on I want to help," she said as she tried to catch her breath. Maruis looked at her, looked at the blank approaching, then Kryis. He concentrated for a moment, and a warm red glow surrounded his hand.
The blank resumed his attack, sending
The cries of the murkrow split the evening air as the three travelers stood on a path leading away from the dome. Both scientists, Kryis, Screamer, and Dr. Burch's pet meowth, Mr. Meowth was there to see them off. "Sorry to see you go again, Maruis," Dr. Burch said sadly. "You and your friends must come back after you beat this Kain person. I would like to study how your minds handle both pokemon and human thought," Prof.. Burch said. Screamer sent wiping away a tear. "Bye you guys." "Here," she said, tossing the Life Key to Leslie "I don't need this, and it stopped glowing after I beat that guy anyhow." "Thanks/we'll see you later/goodbye," came the three replies as they headed off. *What a bunch of odd people, * said Mr. Meowth from his perch in the Doctor's arms. *Still I wish them good luck. *
