Who’d Have Known?
Disclaimer: I don’t own Pokémon or the song, which is by Lily
Allen.
Summary: A sweet songfic about how a certain couple got
together…
Note: Ash is 17, Misty is 18, and
who actually cares about Brock or Dawn… This is also set after Ash finishes the
Sinnoh League, just so you know.
Extra Note: This is based on Lily Allen’s song, ‘Who’d Have
Known?”. Once again, I heard the song, and got pictures in my head, so I had to
start writing.
New Note: I decided to re-submit this after I read
through it on the site and found several typos and errors. I don’t know how I
missed them the first 7 times I read it… I only seem to catch these things
after the fact.

Ash stretched and yawned, causing the slim red-head
next to him to yawn widely as well. “Ahh,
what’s the time, anyway…?” Misty rubbed her eyes as she glanced over at the
clock. “Whoa… it’s going on five…”
She glanced sheepishly at the young man sitting next to her on the couch. “Wha?!” Ash
glanced at the clock, just to make sure she wasn’t messing with him. “Whoa…” He rubbed the back of his head,
mussing up his thick black hair even more, and blushed. “I guess we got carried away with catching up, huh Myst?” She
blushed at her nick-name. “Yeah…”
Misty got up and stretched, causing her pale yellow top to move in ways that
didn’t go unnoticed by Ash, who blushed and looked away. “Well, the conversation was getting kinda boring anyway…” Ash nodded
and got up. “Yeah… I’m gonna grab a quick bite to eat, then I’m gonna go to bed.
See how much shut-eye I can get before mum comes up to wake me…” he
flinched a little. “But… I’m gonna go to
the bathroom first…” he blushed and moved up the stairs as fast as his
bladder would allow.
Misty smiled and followed him up the stairs, shaking
her head. Reaching the door to the spare room, where her things were lying on
the bed, she paused. Ash came out of the bathroom, blushing and went back
downstairs with a small grin thrown her way. Misty rolled her eyes and reached
for the doorknob, pausing again. Glancing back down the stairs, she could just
hear Ash rattling around in the kitchen. Sighing she turned away. ‘What do I gotta do to give him a clue?!’ She glanced at his bedroom door, which was closed. ‘Maybe… NO, I shouldn’t…’ A mad grin
spread across her face as she stepped forwards, quietly opening the door and
stepping inside, closing the door behind her and breathing deeply. ‘I’ll just see how he reacts, that’s all…’
Ash washed down his impromptu sandwich with a gulp
of water and stood up. “Okay, that
should last me a bit…” He yawned as he washed the glass out and turned it
upside-down on the draining board. “Ugh,
I gotta get some sleep…” Ash stumbled up the stairs as quietly as he could,
trying not to wake anybody, especially Misty, who he was sure would be asleep
by now. He reached his bedroom door without incident, opening and closing it as
quietly as he could. Sighing with relief, he turned and froze. ‘M-Misty?! Wha…What’s
she doing in here?!’
Misty closed her eyes as soon as she heard the door
open, and heard Ash gasp as he saw her there. ‘This is crazy! Maybe I can pretend I was so tired, I went into the
wrong room, and woke up when he came in… No! He saw me at my door earlier…
Dammit! It’s too late now… I’ll just have to see what he does…’ Misty
carefully slowed her breathing down, acting as if she was out cold. ‘Maybe he’ll join me…’
Ash rubbed the back of his head nervously. ‘Ugh, what do I do now?!’
Stepping closer, he saw the steady rise and fall of her chest, and quickly
looked away as he realized what he was looking at. ‘What am I doing?!’ he sighed. ‘Maybe I can wake her…’ Reaching out a
hand, he stopped and instead, brushed away a lose strand of hair that had slipped
down across her forehead. ‘Nah… I can’t
do that, she looks so peaceful.’ He smiled faintly. ‘She’s cute when she’s not yelling at me…’ He started as Misty made
a small noise and rolled over, facing the wall. There was now just enough room
for maybe… Ash blushed, as the part of his brain that he usually ignored spoke
up. He argued with it. ‘She’s your best
friend… She’ll kill you… Mum’ll kill you…’ Ash’s
thoughts were interrupted by yet another yawn, and a quick check of his nearby
clock confirmed that it was now closer to five-thirty than anything.
‘Ugh, I’m too tired to argue this…’
Sighing, he quietly moved back the covers and slipped in next to Misty.
Misty felt the covers shift, and Ash’s leg gently
brush against her own. ‘He’s… getting in…’
Misty’s eyes shot open, and a small smile crossed her face. ‘I should probably quit while I’m ahead…’
Moving slowly, she acted as if she’d just woken up; rolling over to face Ash’s
shocked face with a pretend one of her own. “Uh, so-sorry, Misty… it’s just… you’re in my bed… and I’m tired…” Misty blushed. “I musta been wiped out… wandered into the wrong room... I guess…”
Ash laughed nervously. “Uh, yeah…” ‘Even though she was at the right door
before…’ Misty yawned, covering her mouth with one hand, which brushed
against Ash’s chest as she lifted it up, causing strange but wonderful tingles
to run up and down his body. ‘Oh, God…’
he blushed, hoping she wouldn’t notice in the pre-dawn gloom of the darkened
room. Misty closed her eyes again. “Well,
I’m too comfortable to get up now, Ketchum, so either fall out, or shut up and
let me sleep.”
Ash nervously watched her face as Misty’s breathing
got slower and deeper. Strangely, he was now wide awake, and could still feel
the tingles race up and down his spine from the brief contact earlier. ‘What’s wrong with me?!’
Nervously, he raised his arm and carefully placed his hand on Misty’s shoulder,
amazed at how soft her skin was. ‘God, so
this is what a girl’s skin feels like… so smooth… and soft…’ His blush
deepened as Misty shuffled closer to him, and he could just make out a muttered
word… “Cold…” As if feeling his
sudden warmth, Misty slowly opened her eyes and looked at him, one eyebrow
raised. “Ash?”
Ash’s attempts to explain himself never reached his
tongue, as he looked directly into Misty clear blues eyes, slightly red around
the edges from lack of sleep. ‘God, it’s
like she can see right through me…’ He blushed and glanced away. Misty
watched his face as Ash tried to avoid her eyes, but the brief glimpse into his
adorable chocolate brown eyes told her what she already kinda knew; he had NO
idea what he was doing, or why. Misty smile faintly and lifted her head to see
the window. “Looks like it’s gonna be a nice day today… maybe tomorrow too…” Ash
started and half-turned to look at the window too, hand slipping further down
Misty’s arm as he moved. “Huh… Yeah…”
The first rays of morning were already shining through the curtains, and Ash
was glad they were mostly drawn; he didn’t want Misty to see his face right now.
“Of course,
if it rains, we could watch T.V again…” Misty shrugged, causing Ash hand to
slip a little further, down to her elbow. “Yeah…
We could watch that show you like… uh, something about the sun…” he trailed
off. Misty rolled her eyes. “That would
be ‘A Place in the Sun’, genius boy.” Ash blushed. “Right, that…”
Misty smiled, causing tingles to jump along Ash’s
body again. ‘I love her smile…’ Misty
blinked a bit of sleep out of her eyes. ‘Well,
this is going nowhere…’ Misty thoughts were suddenly interrupted by
something she’d never felt before. ‘Wha…’
Her eyes open wide as she realized what was happening. Ash had his eyes closed,
and was kissing her fiercely, as if he was afraid that it’d be his last. ‘Considering my reputation for sudden acts of
violence, who could blame him?’ Misty closed her eyes, and reached around,
pulling Ash closer just as he was pulling away. His hand slipped one last time,
now gently resting on her waist.
Misty finally, reluctantly, pulled away, but only
for lack of air. Ash’s face was bright red, and he slowly licked his lips, the
memory of hers pressed against them unforgettable. Misty blushed and glanced
away, half rolling over. Ash’s hand on her waist pulled her back, and he looked
into her eyes. “Ash… wha…” Ash licked
his lips again. “Misty… um… will you go
out with me?” he blushed fiercely again. Misty’s eyes widened again. ‘He wants to…’ Grinning, she darted
forwards and kissed him on the cheek. “Okay
Ash. I’d love to.” Ash grinned madly. “Yeah?”
Misty giggled at his goofy grin, which she’d always loved. “Duh, of course. Do you think you’d still be
alive after that kiss if I DIDN’T like you?” Ash’s cheeks flashed pink
briefly. “Good point.” They smiled
at each other happily.
A Week Later… “Morning,
Myst.” Ash almost bounced down the stairs, and he wrapped his arms around
Misty, kissing her gently on the cheek. “Morning
Ash… Uh, you DO know Brock, Dawn and your mum are here, right?” she
blushed. Ash released her and blushed. “Yeah,
I know…” Brock rolled his eyes. “And
to think… it used to be that they couldn’t even go two hours without arguing.
One date, and they’re all over each other…” he
sighed. “I should be so lucky…”
Misty rolled her eyes at her old friend as Ash grabbed a piece of toast and sat
down next to her. Dawn half scowled. “It’s
kinda sickening…” she muttered under her breath,
dark eyes narrowing. Misty glanced over, as she’d heard the comment, but said
nothing, as no-one else seemed to have noticed.
After breakfast, Ash and Misty sat down on the
couch, leaving Brock to help with the washing up. Ash nervously put his arm
around her shoulders, and Misty giggled and snuggled into him, pulling Pikachu
onto her lap in the process. “My two
favourite boys in the whole, wide world. And I don’t mean Gyarados and Psyduck.”
Ash kissed her gently on the cheek, and rubbed Pikachu behind an ear. “My two favourite people; my best friend,
and my girlfriend…” he blushed as he said this last part, still not quite
used to the more-than-friends part of the word. Misty rolled her eyes and
turned on the TV, finding her favourite cartoon channel. “Hey, ‘Thunder Warriors’ is on!”
Ash grinned. “I love this show… too.”
He glanced down at Misty. “Aww, sweet!”
She pecked him on the cheek.
That night… “Okay
everybody.” They all looked away from the TV as Delia walked into the
living room and placed her hands on her hips. “It’s almost ten ‘o’clock, and you should all be asleep.” Misty
yawned and sat up as Ash stretched, actually breaking physical contact for only
the fourth time since breakfast. And two of those were so they could each go to
the bathroom… “Yeah, I’m beat…” Ash
muttered, arms dropping back to Misty’s shoulders. “Yeah… I could sleep…” Misty rubbed her eyes wearily. Their yawns
set off Brock and Dawn, and even Pikachu yawned widely, showing off his small,
but sharp teeth. “Pi-Kaaaaaaa-Chuuuuuuuu…”
Misty smiled and picked him up, kissing him gently on one of his red cheek
spots. “You too huh, little guy?’
Pikachu nodded, his eyes slowly closing as he snuggled softly into Misty’s
chest.
Delia eyed Ash and Misty as they walked past on
their way to the stairs. ‘They look sooo
cute together… but they better behave themselves up there, or else…’ Ash
finally removed his arm from Misty’s shoulder as they reached the hall outside
their rooms. “Goodnight Ash.” Misty
leaned forwards and gently kissed him on the lips, still holding Pikachu in her
arms. “Goodnight babe…. Uh, Misty.”
Ash blushed, kissing her and nervously retreating into his room. Misty stood
there stunned for a moment before smiling. ‘He
called me babe…’ she shook her head happily, before she opened the door to
her room and closed it behind her. At the top of the stairs, unseen, Delia
smiled.
Delia stayed up a little longer, looking through
some photos of when Ash was a little boy. ‘They
grow up so fast…’ she sighed. ‘One
moment, they insist that girls are covered in cooties, or some such nonsense…
the next, you can’t pry them apart with a crowbar. Or a Pokémon…’ She
smiled softly to herself. ‘I’ll have to
have a talk with Misty in the morning. Make sure she understands the rules in
this house…’ Humming softly, Delia stood up and started packing the photos
away into their box. ‘I should try not to
scare her though… she’s already nervous around me. Understandable, as she’s
dating my only son… ’ she turned off the light and made her way quietly up
the stairs. Pausing, she placed her ear to Ash’s door and heard solid snoring;
for him, this was normal. Nodding, she carefully opened Misty’s door; the small
amount of light in the room allowed her to see the girl, cuddled up with
Pikachu, a happy smile on her face. Satisfied that they were where they were
supposed to be, Delia closed the door and went to bed.
Misty walked out of the study and breathed out
heavily. ‘Man, THAT was awkward…’ She glanced over at Ash,
who’d turned around on the couch and was watching her, biting his lip. He’d
been like that for a while, worried about what his mother wanted to talk to
Misty about; and alone at that. She smiled at him and gave him the thumbs up,
causing his face to light up with his boyish grin. “I think I passed inspection…” she
whispered to him as she sat down, checking over her shoulder as Delia came out
of the room. Delia smiled at them as she walked past into the kitchen, and
hummed as she busied herself with preparing lunch. Ash kissed Misty on the
cheek. “Of course, Myst. Who doesn’t
love you?” she grinned and kissed him back, settling herself in to watch TV
with him.
Okay, for those who don’t know the song, here is a

This song was slowly starting to drill into my brain
from being on repeat for over two hours. The moment I finished writing this, I
had to hit something…
So, like it? Hate it? Want to kiss me? Want to hit me? Wanna give me money? (Yes, Please!) Wanna
force me to watch Teletubbies until I drool
uncontrollably? Please, anything but the last one, I beg of you… I know! Instead of that, just flame me, okay? Trust me, ANYTHING’S
better than Teletubbies. And I mean ANYTHING!
Even flames!

P.S: This took me about two-n-a-half-hours to write. I
know this because my computer, which is new, kept asking me to shut down for an
update every bloody hour… (sighs) I’m still figuring
this thing out. It’s still better than my old one though… much better, ‘cause the new one’s a Toshiba! J The old one was a Lenovo… has anybody even heard of
that? No? Me neither.
