Ash’s thoughts. Misty’s thoughts. Both
“Wow,
the Professor really went all out with the decorations this year!”
Ash looked around the room excitingly. “Yeah, well, he had Gary and I to help out, so...” Tracey pushed past
Ash with a bowl of snack food. Misty looked around. “Wow,
it kinda makes me glad I’m spending Christmas here, instead of back home...”
Delia smiled as she rushed past. “Of course, dear. No-one
should have to spend Christmas alone.” Misty grinned. “Yeah,
my sister’s should go out of town more often...”
Sometime
later, the party had just gotten into full swing. Ash leaned against the door
to the patio, Pikachu perched on his shoulder. “Just about everyone
in town must be here, Pikachu.” “Pika!”
Ash started humming to himself happily. “Pika?”
Ash looked guilty. “Oh, I guess I must be in a really good mood,
‘cause I feel like singing... weird, huh?” He started humming
again, and suddenly found the words just appearing in his head:
‘There’s a feeling I’m getting
I just can’t explain
Making me glad tonight
Maybe it’s Christmas
Maybe the snow
Maybe the mistletoe...’
Misty
leaned against the wall, trying to figure out where all of her friends had
vanished to. “Well, Tracey’s over there, checking the tree’s set up
properly... Mrs. Ketchum’s watching the snack table, probably waiting for Ash
to find it...” she chuckled to herself. “Brock’s,
um... oh boy...” Brock was standing at the foot of the
stairs, directly under a piece of mistletoe. “Well, you can’t blame
a guy for trying... now, where’s Ash?” Standing on tip-toe,
she finally spotted him leaning against the patio door. Misty gasped. ‘I wonder if he realizes that he’s under...’
she smiled. ‘Probably not. Looks like
he’s humming or something... I feel like singing too, come to think of it...
strange that.’ Misty hummed as the
words popped up from her heart:
‘There’s a secret I’m keeping
That no-one can hear
A feeling deep in my heart
Maybe this Christmas
My true love will show
Under the mistletoe...’
Without
realizing it, they had started singing the same song!
‘Jolly
old saint Nicholas
Before
the night is through
There’s
something very special
That
I’d like to say to you
Merry,
merry Christmas
And
I’d like you to know...’
‘I’m hoping that I meet some one
Under the mistletoe.’
Misty glanced over at Ash and smiled.
‘Now there’s a crowd at the party.’ “Far too many people...”
Ash muttered to himself.
‘Our friends are all here.’ Misty waved at May across the room.
‘Everyone’s
warm and bright.’
‘Maybe I’ll meet him
Where hearts are aglow
Under the mistletoe.’
Misty made her way over to the patio door.
‘Maybe I’ll just stand here
And no-one will know I’m
Under the mistletoe...’
“Boy,
this party sure is crowded... hey, wait a minute! There’s Christmas cookies
over there! Let’s go get some, Pikachu!” “Pika!”
“Hi,
Ash.”
“Oh,
hi Misty...” “Great party, huh?”
“Yeah,
we were just going to get something to eat...” “Hey,
did you see Nurse Joy?” “Yeah, maybe you should go
tell Brock...” Misty frowned. “Maybe not...”
“Anyway,
can we squeeze past you, we’re pretty hungry...” “Oh,
sure, Ok, um...”
Ash
finally managed to escape and get past Misty in the narrow doorway and breathed
a sigh of relief on the way to the snack table. “That was a close one,
Pikachu.”
Pikachu looked at him quizzically. “Pika?”
Ash glanced at him. “Well, if she had noticed the mistletoe, we’d
have to kiss... with everyone watching us, like all of our friends.”
He closed his eyes as the scene played before his eyes. “Ugh,
we’d never live it down. It’s much safer just getting cookies.”
Misty
sighed as she went back to her spot by the wall. ‘So close... maybe he knew that mistletoe was there... and didn’t want
to kiss me...’ She sighed again and gloomily looked over at Ash shoving a
whole cookie in his mouth. ‘I’ll try
again later... even if he taste like cookies... which could be fun...’
‘Jolly old saint Nicholas
Before the night is through ‘Jolly old saint Nicholas
There’s something very special Before the night is through
That I’d like to say to you There’s something very special
Merry, merry Christmas That I’d like to say to you
And I’d like you to know...’ I’d like you to know...’
‘I’m hoping that I don’t get caught
Under the mistletoe.’
Ash glanced over at Misty leaning against the wall as he made his way back to
the door. “She looks kinda sad...”
‘There’s a crowd at the party.’ Misty
grinned briefly at Max as he dashed past.
‘Our friends are all here.’ “Not
in front of them...” Ash blushed faintly.
‘Everyone’s
warm and bright.’
‘Maybe he’ll find out...you just never
know...’ Misty glanced over as
Ash leaned against the door again and blushed.
‘Under
the mistletoe.’
‘Maybe I’ll stand here... maybe I’ll go...’
‘Maybe this Christmas, I might let him
know...’ Misty started walking purposely back over to Ash.
‘Maybe this Christmas, I just might get..
uh-oh...’
“Hi,
Ash. Did you get something to eat?” “Uh,
yeah...”
“Um,
Ash... did you realize we’re standing under the mistletoe?”
Ash glanced up. He’d forgotten about that... “Huh?...Ahhh!”
He glanced about madly for an excuse, any excuse, not to do this here. “Ash,
where are you going?!” “Uh-ah, I’m getting some
Christmas cookies!” “But you just got some
cookies...!” “Yeah, I know... Come on, Pikachu!”
Misty put her hands on her hips as Pikachu leaped up onto her shoulder. “What’s
his problem, Pikachu?” “Pika, Pika!”
“Come
on, Pikachu!” Ash called back, turning slightly as he did so. “Ash,
look out for the...” Ash glanced back, just as he collided
with a wayward chair and sailed headlong into one of the folding snack tables.
“Whaaaaa!”
Misty winced. “Uh, never mind...”
A couple of hours later, when the demolished
mess had been cleaned up, Ash sat down as the last of the party goers walked
out, glancing at him and giggling. “What a disaster...”
he moaned, putting his head in his hands. “I totally embarrassed
myself, just to avoid...” he stopped as he heard the scrape of a
chair being pulled up beside him. “Hey Ash... you do know that you
have cookie crumbs in your hair, right?” Misty reached over
and pulled a large chunk out and flicked it away with a smile. Ash blushed. “Thanks.”
Misty glanced over at him. “I know you usually dive head-first into
whatever you eat, but this is the first time you’ve done it literally...”
Ash blushed deeper and looked away. “I didn’t mean to...”
Misty laughed. “The best bit was when that custard tart flew
through the air and hit Brock, smack in the face!” Ash chuckled,
despite himself. “Yeah, okay, THAT was awesome... but the rest
was a complete disaster...”
They
sat in silence as their friends started to carry the surviving bowls and dishes
back to the house. As Gary and Professor Oak went outside to feed the Pokémon,
Misty sighed. “You know, Ash, you still owe me that kiss...”
Ash fell sideways off the chair. “Wha?”
Misty shrugged. “It IS tradition, you know...”
Ash quickly glanced around. ‘Well, we
are alone... no-one will see...’ “O-kay...” He squeaked nervously, standing
up. Misty stood up and walked away. “Huh? Where...?”
Ash stammered. ‘I thought she wanted...’
Misty glanced back. “We gotta do this right, under the mistletoe,
otherwise, it’s just making out. And the others could come back any moment now,
so...”
Ash nodded and followed her over to the stairs. Misty glanced up. “Well,
this one didn’t work too well for Brock, all he got to kiss was that custard
tart... but it’s either this, or the patio one, where Gary could see...”
“This
will do.”
Ash said hurriedly.
‘God, we’re actually gonna do this... what’s
taking so long?’ Misty opened one eye. Ash was standing in front of her,
trembling, his eyes squeezed shut. ‘Ah,
he froze up... oh well.’ She carefully stepped forwards and placed one hand
behind Ash’s head and kissed him. Ash’s eyes shot open. ‘Huh?... wow...’ He closed his eyes again and slowly moved his hand
behind Misty’s head. After a moment, they broke off. “Merry
Christmas, Ash.” Misty giggled at the goofy look on his face. “Merry
Christmas, Misty.” Ash squeaked. “Uh,
can we, um... can we kiss some more?” Misty shrugged. “Sure,
you taste like cookies anyway...” she giggled as they
moved in again.
Delia
let herself back in to collect the rest of her things. “If
only Ash hadn’t knocked over that table... I wonder what he was running from, anyway?”
She opened the door to the room where the party had been and froze. ‘Ah, so
THAT’S what’s going on...’ Delia smiled and silently closed the door again.
‘The rest of my things can wait til morning...’ she thought as she retraced her
steps through the snow.
The End.
Well,
I’m not really sure how that turned out... I liked the song, and decided to
write a Christmas fic around it, that’s all... If you listen to the song,
you’ll notice that the things they say to each other during the fic are also in
the song itself. I just wrote around them. If you liked it, great. If you
didn’t, keep in mind that all flames will be printed out and fed to my
Infernape. (good little monkey thing... you LIKE flames, don’t you? Yeah.)
