Part 3.
“Wow… I didn’t know that about you…” Ash
half shrugged. “Yeah, well… it’s
embarrassing, okay?” Misty laughed. “Well,
yeah… Having a crush on your rival’s older sister probably isn’t something a
guy likes to talk about!” Ash blushed. “Shut up… I don’t even like her anymore…” he whined. Misty giggled.
“Okay, okay… let’s make this fair.
Anything you wanna ask me?” Ash glanced at her and thought for a moment. “Err… have you ever… um… kissed a guy?”
Misty blushed and looked away. “No… I
usually beat them up before it gets to that. Making out with every guy in sight
is more my sisters’ kinda thing, ya know?” Ash nodded, not really
understanding. “Hmm… I wonder what time
it is, anyway?” Misty reached back into her hip-pack and brought out a
watch. “Uh… wow… eight AM… We’ve been
here and awake all night.” Ash stared at the watch as she showed it to him.
“They’re taking a while to find us…”
Misty shrugged and put the watch away. “Probably
looking further down the mountain… in case we got swept down there. All we need
to do is stay warm, and most importantly, alive, until they find us, that’s all.”
Ash sighed. “Okay… what do we talk about
now?” Misty grinned cheekily. “The
likelihood of Brock actually getting a girl before Max does?” Ash grinned
back at her. “Not a chance!”
“Okay everyone,
spread out. Standard search formation. Go!” Delia watched as the search and
rescue crews started their search pattern. She almost jumped as Brock placed a
hand on her shoulder. “They’ll be okay,
Mrs. Ketchum. Misty’s smart, and Ash is, well… too stupid to die, as Misty
would say. If anyone can survive this long, it’ll be those two. They’re both
too stubborn to give in that easily.” Delia nodded. “I know, but…” she sighed. “It doesn’t make me any less terrified.”
“Brock’s right, Delia…” Professor
Oak trudged up through the snow and placed his hand on her remaining shoulder.
“We just have to have faith in their
stubbornness.” Brock gave a small chuckle. “Besides, do you really think Misty would let Ash die?!
Not unless she gets the honour of killing him herself!” The three laughed
quietly. “Well, you do have a point
there…” Delia conceded, smiling faintly. ‘Misty, look after him, please…’ she silently prayed.
Pikachu
watched from a tree branch with a worried look on his face. <Ash…
Misty…> he sighed, long black-tipped yellow ears drooping sadly.
<Huh?
What’s that?> Pikachu jumped down from the branch, and after hopping
out of the small pit that he created, he bounded along in the snow towards the
movement he’d spotted from the corner of his eye. <What’s this thing?!> He sniffed the strange object and jumped back
a foot when it suddenly started wiggling back and forwards. Resisting his
natural urge to shock it with an electric attack, he stepped forwards again,
and tapped the thing with first the tip of lightning bolt-shaped tail, then one
of his tiny front paws.
“Hey… did you feel that?” “Feel what, Ash?” Misty stared at him,
worried that maybe the cold was finally getting to him. “I think something up there just tapped my ski…” Misty stared
thoughtfully at the ceiling of their small ice-cave. “Well, wriggle your foot to a rhythm, maybe who, or whatever it is, will
realize someone’s down here, and get help.” Ash tapped his foot a couple of
times, stopped then shifted it up and down, hoping that someone will see it and
come soon. Despite the warmth, which he’d never admit to feeling, from being so
close to Misty, his back was going numb…
Pikachu
watch as the object moved back and forwards, before suddenly going up and down.
The cold air was affecting his sense of smell, and the echoes off the snow off
the people searching behind him made it difficult to hear properly, but he
thought he could hear voices… Pikachu turned and ran back to the search area,
and raced towards Delia as fast as the snow would allow him. “Pika-pi! Pikachu-pi!” he tugged on the
leg of her ski-outfit. “Pikachu… What’s
wrong?” Delia knelt down and picked him up. “Are you worried about Ash and Misty? I am too…” Pikachu shook his
head, his ears flapping slightly with the movement. “Pika! Pi!” he jumped back down and ran away a little, stopping and
looking back towards her. “I think he wants
us to follow him…” Professor Oak mused. “Maybe he found some sign of Ash, and Misty!” Brock exclaimed,
walking towards the small yellow mouse. “Pi!”
Pikachu nodded, and ran back towards the object.
Misty
paused mid-sentence and stared up at the ceiling of
the ice-cave. “Ash… Are you seeing what
I’m seeing?” Ash looked up, and saw flecks of snow falling from the roof. “Err… does that mean…” Misty briefly
wrapped her arms around Ash and kissed him on the cheek. “They found us!” she squealed. Ash stared straight ahead as his
cheek flared with warmth. “Cover your
ears, Ash…” Misty warned, and Ash snapped out of his stunned stupor enough
to stuff his fingers into his ears as far as they would go. Misty grinned. “We’re down here!” she yelled, the small
area almost vibrating to her voice. Ash removed his fingers and shook his head.
“Still a loud-mouthed brat, I hear…”
“Still a stupid monkey-boy, I see…”
they grinned at each other.
Later,
after they’d been pulled out of the snow and given some medical attention, Ash
sat on the couch of the ski-lodge, in front of a fire that Brock had lit in the
fireplace, a heavy cast on his arm. ‘I
guess one good thing about all this is, I learned some stuff about Misty…’
he smiled slightly. ‘Her lips are warm…’
He almost jumped up as a mug came into his field of view. “Sorry…” Misty smiled at him. “Thought
you might like some hot cocoa…” Ash gratefully took the mug as Misty eased
herself down next to him. “How’s your
ankle?” he asked, glancing down at the bandage around her ankle, worry
etched on his face. Misty glanced down at it and shrugged. “Fine. Just a small sprain, that’s all.
Still enough to keep me off the ski-slopes though… But by the time we leave,
it’ll be alright.” Ash sighed, relieved. “That’s good…”
“What did the doctor say about your arm?”
Misty glanced at his cast. Ash tapped it gently. “Fractured. I gotta have this stupid cast on for three weeks… and it
itches like crazy too…” he tried to scratch around his thumb, and grunted
with frustration. Misty smiled in sympathy. “Yeah… I busted my right arm when I was a kid, so I know exactly what
you’re going through.” Ash smiled back at her. “Just a tip, Ash…” Misty added. “Remember to tie the plastic bag on your arm BEFORE you get in the
shower, okay? I forgot once, and had to hold my arm out of the tub the entire
time. Shortest, and most painful, shower I ever took…” she groaned and
leaned back into the couch. Ash grinned back at her. “Right… I’ll remember that.”
Ash
stared over at Misty as she leaned forwards to sip her hot cocoa. “Misty?” she looked up at him. “Yeah Ash?” Ash nervously leaned over
and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. “Thanks…
for looking after me… and being prepared for anything…” Misty blushed and
fidgeted with the rim of her mug. “Well,
to be honest… I wasn’t expecting THAT…” she smiled softly at him, looking
away briefly as Pikachu entered the room and jumped up onto the couch beside
them, only to curl up and fall asleep with a small happy sigh. “So…” Misty looked at Ash and grinned. “You gonna kiss Pikachu too, for saving us?”
Ash grinned. “Nah… I’ll just give him
some ketchup later…” They silently grinned at each before leaning back and
relaxing in front of the fire.
Okay…
It took a fair while, but I finally finished this thing…
In
case you’re wondering, the reason I didn’t go into too much detail for the ski
equipment or the outfits is because everything I know about skiing, can fit on
my thumbnail! I’ve never skied in my life, and I hate the cold, so I won’t be
trying it anytime soon!
