Disclaimer: FAN-fiction, peeps! I
don't own Pokemon, Caterpie or the 'monster', Kris/Marina. I do own Phyra,
Pinto, Vasillis and any other Pokemon characters I may make up in the story.
--------------------
The huge beast looms over me, enormous and
intimidating, with every intention to crush me with its long heavy trail of a
rocky tail. Its large white eyes stare down at me with no recognition. I try
pleading with it. "Hi, buddy," I say in a panicked voice. "Um...nice tail
you've got there. Er, perfect for crushing things." It was a pathetic attempt
attempt and its terrible blank eyes continue to stare at me murderously as it
raises its head and opens its mouth, ready to tear me in two. I imagine myself
being pulverised in those terrifying, eager jaws and one thought goes through
my mind.
I hate humans.
CONFESSIONS
of a Caterpie
PART 1: CAPTURE
I am a young Caterpie named Phyra. I'm perfectly healthy,
recently passed into adulthood and lived a peaceful, happy life in a huge mass
of trees that I've heard the girl call Viridian Forest - until recently. Well,
I had better tell you the whole story and then maybe you'll understand what
led me here, trembling in front of a terrifying monster.
It was the best day of my remarkably short life. The sun was shining in a
gorgeous azure sky, filtering through the moist green foliage. The forest was
teeming with wildlife and the small world that I knew was happy.
And I was now an adult.
The other Caterpie, Metapod and Butterfree clustered around me, in particular
the elderly, quiet Butterfree, Pinto, who had raised me since I was naught but
a larva. I was astonished that nobody was edging away from me as a huge
swelling occurred in my abdomen and I felt I was inflating. Pinto and my
father, Vasillis, made their speeches and I only half-listened, feeling the
pride radiate through my fuzzy skin as a crown-like formation of silk was
placed on my head. There was a good deal of celebration and laughter in the
Caterpie colony after that.
Then the ground shook. It was gradual, but something was pounding the ground,
and whatever it was was getting closer and closer. The Pokémon scattered. I
couldn't understand what was happening. "Hide, girl!" hissed Pinto as she
fluttered past me.
"Father, what -" I began, but the King of Butterfree was far too busy
bothering with his own life to save his daughter's.
I was the only one still visible. A huge monster pounded its way around the
corner and I gasped, staring up at it.
It was the ugliest creature I had ever seen. It had disgustingly
squishy-looking yellow-brown skin and no hair, not even the thin, velvety fuzz
covering us Caterpie, covering its body. It towered above me on two fleshy
long legs, the bottom of which were hideously artificial-looking, and a nasty
black colour. Its forelegs dangled from the top of its shoulders and it had
for some reason encased its body in brightly coloured artificial fur (I learnt
later that these were called 'clothes'). It had an odd, squashed face with a
small, protruding nose and large watery white eyes with blue irises. Strange
lines of dark hair appeared above its eyes and it had a mass of fine,
blue-black hair jutting stiffly out from the back of its head. It bared its
blunt white teeth at me and its eyes crinkled. The effect of this was very
disconcerting. I know now that this is what humans call a smile.
It opened its dull pink mouth and said, "Espeon, I choose you!" Before I had
time to consider what these strange words might mean, the thing had thrown a
ball at the nearest rock. It bounced of, split open and spilt a strange ball
of white light onto the rock. From this white light materialised a creature I
had never seen before. It was a light purple colour, had a pointed snout and
four twitchy ears. It was a strange although not really ugly Pokémon, and I
was quite interested in it. I squirmed forward and said, "Hello, my friend.
What is your name?" The monster interrupted rudely then:
"Psychic, Espeon!" The Pokémon acted as if it had not heard, but continued to
stare at me blankly. I felt drawn in by its stare and stood transfixed by it.
Then the gem on its forehead glowed a beautiful combination of colours. I
sighed, looking at it, but a split-second later the rainbow had shot out and
hit me in the abdomen. I let out a scream of pain and did what came to me
instinctively; I shot a thread of sticky silk at it. The Pokémon was hit
squarely in the chest and the thread wound around its legs. It let out a grunt
of protest.
"Esp!"
I whimpered and began to squirm away, but the human commanded her Pokémon,
"Swift attack!"
The Pokémon said in a robotic voice, "Obey. Opponent. Must. Hurt. Obey.
Swift." I stared in horror. What could make a Pokémon lose its will like this?
The opponent opened its mouth and a stream of stars shot out and knocked into
me. I squealed in pain, wriggling helplessly on my back. Then something round
flew over my head and the next thing I knew, my being was encased in a
Pokéball.
