Chapter 6: Apologies
It was dead silence. Nothing was heard except for the soft humming sound of the
computer near us. The expression on my face looked as if I was about to do
something bad to Kenta, and his was calm, almost close to sadness.
"I take it that Lance already told you everything," said Kenta quietly, breaking
the silence.
"Oh yeah, he did alright," I replied, my anger rising. Then, I decided to ask
the one question I've been waiting to ask him. "Why did you go without telling
me, Kenta?"
"Please Marina, you have to understand..."
I cut him off. "You thought that by doing this, you wouldn't make me worried," I
said quickly. "You know what? It didn't work," I said quietly. "You just made me
even more worried, Kenta!" I shouted, tears rolling down my eyes.
"Marina, you have to understand!" shouted Kenta back. "I HAD to leave! I didn't
want you to get involved in this because I had no intention of
you getting hurt in any way!"
"Well I'm hurt right now!" I shouted back.
"Listen to me, Marina..."
"I'm not gonna listen to you!" I shouted through tears. I sat down on the bed
and cried.
"I had to leave you for your own safety! To me, you're more than just a
friend!" he shouted, and at this, I was surprised when I heard him say that. He
actually did care for me...
"Let me ask you this one question, Marina," continued Kenta. "Would you like to
live rather than die?" he asked me.
"I would rather live, but not without you, Kenta," I said after a moment's
silence. I saw Kenta sit down on a chair right in front of me, obviously looking
very surprised also.
"Well," he said, bending over a bit, "if that's the case, then,
I'm really sorry Marina,"
he said and he took my hand. I felt myself turn red as he did this.
"I'm really, really sorry, Marina. I guess I should've considered that..." he
said quietly.
"It doesn't matter now Kenta," I said as I hugged him, and I felt
myself turn more red. "I'm just glad you're
ok," I said, and he hugged me back.

"So, who was that guy anyway?" I asked Kenta as he moved one of the cameras his
own set of surveillance equipment on his laptop towards that scary guy who met
me at the gate.
"Who? The one you saw at the gate?" he asked back.
"Yeah, that one," I replied, pointing at the guy.
"His name is Richter, and he's a Rocket Executive," he replied, facing me. "Best
if you stay away from him, he's pretty ticked at the sight of me," he replied
smugly.
"Why?" I asked.
"Well, did you fight him when you were about to be assigned?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said quietly. "He just used one Pokémon to beat me. He looked as if he
wasn't going to let me become an Executive," I finished. "Wait a second, what
are you anyway?" I asked Kenta.
"Well, let's just say he's ticked at me because I'm better than him," he
replied, and that's when it hit me.
"You actually beat HIM?" I asked in surprise, and he grinned and nodded in
reply. "So, you're an Executive now, huh?" I asked again.
"That's why we're in this room," he replied, grinning. I thought of something
else, and before I knew it, I started to blush. Then I saw Kenta do the same, as
his grin kind of widened and cleared his throat a little. I wondered whether or not
he actually did like me.
"Umm...Kenta?" I asked, blushing still.
"Yeah?"
"I was just wondering," I said, blushing furiously, "do you..."
I was suddenly cut short as a warning siren sounded off on Kenta's open laptop.
I sighed as Kenta got out of his seat and ran towards the laptop. He checked it
out and I saw him widen his eyes in horror.
"That does not look good!" he said out loud.
I went over to Kenta and took a look over his shoulder. "What happened?" I
asked.
"Not good, I'm getting readings of controlled Pokémon near Goldenrod," he said
quickly. "The signals are stronger than anything I've fought off before. This must be what Lance was warning me about," he said to himself.
Then, he faced me.
"I'm gonna need your help on this one," he said, taking his laptop off the
battery charger. "Are you up to it?" he asked me.
I simply nodded, unaware of the dangers that we were about to face...
