Ash walked around his mansion, idly watching his Pokemon run past him. What the hell was he doing here anyway? He had nothing to and felt so lost and miserable. More so than when he had been in New York.
Don't know what I was looking for when I went home, I found me alone
And sometimes I need someone to say, "You'll be all right. What's on your mind?"
But the water's shallow here and I am full of fear, and empty handed after two long years
“Oh hello Ash!” Delia Ketchum exclaimed upon seeing her son’s face on the Tv telephone. “How are you?”
“More or less.” Ash shrugged. Suddenly he noticed the article of clothing in her mother‘s hand and her Mr. Mime rushing about placing clothes in a suitcase. “Are you packing?”
“Oh yes!” Delia smiled. “I’m going to go and see Misty’s wedding in New York! You going too…?”
“No.” Ash shook his head averting his mother’s steady gaze.
“You still love her don’t you…?” Delia guessed solemnly. When he nodded she went on, “Then tell her.”
“I did.” Ash murmured. “she tricked me into thinking she’d leave Dan… But she obviously isn’t…
Another sunny day in Californ-i-a
I'm sure back home they'd love to see it
But they don't know that what you love is ripped away
Before you get a chance to feel it
“Well then fight for her love.” Delia replied cheerfully. “Or are you going to give up that easily?”
“I-”
“Who’s giving up so easily?” a voice asked from behind her.
“professor oak!” Ash exclaimed in surprise. “What are you-?”
“He’s going to give up on Misty.” Delia explained, interrupting him.
“You’re going to give up on her Ash?”
“I-!”
“Who is Ash going to give up on?”
“Gary-!”
“Misty.”
“What about Misty?”
“Tracey-!”
“Ash is going to give up on Misty.”
Back home I always thought I wanted so much more, now I'm not too sure
Cause sometimes I miss knowing someone's there for me and feeling free
Free to stand beside the ocean in moonlight
And light myself a smoke beneath the dark Atlantic sky
Another sunny day in Californ-i-a
I'm sure back home they'd love to see it
But they don't know that what you love is ripped away
Before you get a chance, before you get a chance to feel it
“Hold on!” Ash yelled into the mouthpiece. “I’m not giving up on Misty! She gave up on me not-!”
“So are you going to fight for her?” Delia asked happily clapping her hands together.
“No-I!”
“That’s good to know Ash!” Professor Oak nodded.
“But-!”
“Good luck Ash!” Gary grinned
“Thanks but-!”
“Hope you and Mist can work it out!” Tracey added.
“Wait a second!”
“Bye then dear!” Delia smiled. “promise me you’ll marry Misty kay?
“Yeah but mom-!”
Click! The phone TV went black and the dial-tone was heard
Everybody here is living life in fear of falling out of line
Tearing lives apart and breaking lots of hearts just to pass the time
And the eyes get red in the back of your head, this place will make you blind
Put it all behind me and I'll be just fine
What had he just promised to his mother…? Ash groaned and sighed. What had he gotten himself into…? Well.. It wasn’t like he didn’t know the moment he kissed Misty in her apartment…. He stood up, pacing maybe he should keep fighting for her. No, he shook his head, and stopped in his pacing. He had tried to fight for her once and it had all turned out wrong. Yet… he resumed his pacing again. He wanted Misty right…? He wanted to be with her… Hadn’t he always fought for what he wanted? So should he…?
Another sunny day beneath this cloudless sky
Sometimes I wish that it would rain here
And wash away the west coast dreaming from my eyes
There's nothing real for them to see here
Ash walked outside into his yard where he found his Pokemon waiting patiently for him. He stared at them, they stared back. He sighed in defeat and asked aloud, “You guys think I should go back too?”
They nodded together and he couldn’t help but smile at his Pikachu’s small pout-out of all his Pokemon he had been the closest to Misty and missed her just as much as he had during those years of separation between them.
Another starry night in Californ-i-a
I'm sure back home they'd love to see it
But they don't know that what you love is ripped away
Before you get a chance, before you get a chance to feel it
“Fine.” Ash grinned down at Pikachu. “I will… But just so ya know, I’m gonna need your help on this too.”
They cheered and rushed towards him with cries of happiness unique to each of the Pokemon.
‘Really…’ Ash thought with a wry smile as he once again mounted his Charizard, ‘I’ve been running away too much-I’m done running. It’s time to get back on track with what I wanted in the first place. I hope I can convince you Mist-I better or else mom and Pikachu will have my head.’
He laughed at the thought and continued on his way to New York. He had a wedding to stop.
