CHAPTER 16
POWEROUT

Sitting in the Saffron City Train Station, Kamon was thinking about how much training he would have to do in order to get his Pokémon higher levels than Drew's.  I would need to get them all 10 levels higher than his to stop his Tyranitar and Lugia faster.  Kamon also recalled Drew having an Eevee, Ampharos, and a Ho-oh.  But that would make 7 Pokémon, Kamon thought.  He might have traded Ho-oh for Lugia, he could have ditched Eevee for Lugia, or who knows what.  Just then, a voice came from over the intercom.
"I am sorry, folks, but the Magnet Train is inoperable right now due to a power failure at the Power Plant north of Lavender Town," the voice said.  It continued:  "The source is still unknown, since communications to the Power Plant are also out.  We will inform you the moment there is anything to inform you about."
"Well, guess I'm not going back home any time soon," Kamon said.  After two hours of waiting, he got fed up with it.  He was going to see what the problem was and solve it for himself.  He left for Lavender town on his Delibird immediately.

Standing in front of the Power Plant, Kamon recalled his bird Pokémon.  He then stepped inside.  There he saw people running around, trying to figure out how to solve the problem.  Kamon walked into the main room where all of the power is generated.  He saw a man standing there, furious.  Next to him were 5 chambers, 4 of which had Pokémon in them.  The last one was empty.  The four Pokémon were a Raichu, Electrode, Magneton, and in the last tank, which was half-way filled with water, was a Lanturn.
"I can't believe my Jolteon escaped!!!" the manager wailed.  "Or maybe it was stolen…but it doesn't matter, it's missing!"
"Um," Kamon started, "well, could I be of any help?"
"Of course not," the manager snapped.  "Unless you have a spare Electric Pokémon."
"Give up my Electabuzz?  No way, man."
"Well, before Zapdos escaped captivity, we had enough electricity to last a lifetime.  After it escaped, however, I had to use my own Electric Pokémon to charge the Power Plant.  But now somebody has stolen my Jolteon!"
"It could have escaped…" Kamon added sarcastically.
"Hey, you, shut up!  I don't need just any Electric Pokémon, either.  It needs to be a high level, like these are.  So don't try to go out and capture a Mareep and give it to me, 'cause it won't work!"
"Well…" Kamon said.  He did not want to give up his Electabuzz.  There must be another way, Kamon thought.  But he could not think of one.  No power is very bad.  But he did not have another Electric-type Pokémon.  "You might be able to use my Electabuzz…"
"Oh, you would do that for me?  And, also, for all of Kanto.  They are all counting on you, you know," the manager said.
"I'm not sure if I want to part with her, though.  She's been a part of my team for a long time."
"I'll pay you."
"How much?" Kamon asked.
"Well, being the manager of the Kanto Power Plant brings in a lot of dough, you see.  You could be looking at around…500,000 credits."
"Five-five hundred thousand credits?  Are you serious?"
"Of course I am.  That's how much it costs to keep the Power Plant operable, you see.  I figure, being the multi-millionaire I am, I could pay you for your Pokémon up front 250, 000 credits, and then in 6 months, one-hundred twenty-five thousand credits, and then six months later pay you the rest."
"I'm not sure about that part…it sounds a lot like the lotto," Kamon said.
"Okay, okay.  300, 000 up front, and then the rest in three months.  Is that better?" the manager asked.
"Well…" Kamon thought.  It's a lot of money, giving up a Pokémon.  A friend.  A teammate.  But…it would be for the good of the country.  But it would also destroy my chances of beating Drew.  I really have no choice, though.  All of Kanto…depends on this, Kamon thought.  "All right.  I accept.  Now…here's my…my Electabuzz."  Kamon released his Pokémon out of the Pokéball.  "Electabuzz, here's the deal," Kamon started.

Kamon explained the whole story to his Electabuzz, and with tears in his eyes, gave the Pokémon to the manager.  He knew that what he did was right, and that he wouldn't regret it.  The only problem was that how in the world was he going to beat Drew now?
