A/N: Heh heh, I guess this is my big moment. Hi, my name is Bubbles, and I love writing stories. This is the first time on the tower though, and all in all, I must admit, it rocks. I think I read every story here! I share an Email with another author here, named Bane Leeryu, because we’re sisters, but other wise, heck, I’m just cooler. Really, I write better too, but lets just keep that between us. Bane Leeryu doesn’t have to know anything was said. So, have fun!
“Go, Golduck!” Misty’s voice called, as her poke-ball leapt from her hand. A blue, erect beast, much resembling a duck (I wonder why?) appeared in front of her. The creature looked fierce, but divine as well, light reflecting his blue skin. It took a defensive pose before calling back to her in a clear, loud voice. “Gold!”
“You don’t think I came prepared for a water gym leader? Ha! Now, I call, Electabuzz!” A mere teenager called, pulling on a hat backwards, imitating the now world famous pokemon league champion. He watched her smirk, nearly fearsome, and her hands fall to her hips, admiring the bright beast the boy had called fourth, looking much like a striped wombat.
“You don’t think I, a water gym leader would be unprepared for a thunder pokemon? Now the joke’s on you.” Her hands left her hips and pointed, “Golduck, agility!”
The creature’s body suddenly seemed to teleport, dancing around the Electabuzz. Just when the duck appeared behind the creature, Misty’s voice rang out: “Now, tackle!” The pokemon responded, and the Electabuzz fell into the water. Misty jumped back in fear, but it seemed apparent that the young man she was facing knew nothing about the effect of electricity on water. She laughed, then had her pokemon tackle again.
After what seemed to be no time at all she won and the boy walked away, upset but a good loser. He wasn’t being a butt head like some people she dealt with.. She sat down on the edge of the pool that her dear sweet Dratini was swimming in. Dratini was the only pokemon she had that she felt belonged to Ash. He had caught it for her, given it to her on her birthday just a month earlier. She loved it, more than air, as it’s snake-like form swam like a mermaid through water.
Ash was the champion at the Pokemon League now. He didn’t see much of Misty or Brock, but there wasn’t much to be seen. Misty and Brock were gym leaders again, and he was a champ. They saw each other formally once every two months for a meeting between all gym leaders and the League. that wasn’t the same as what they used to have.
Ash and Misty used to be an item, and used to be madly in love. They were engaged, but then work became too much, and they floated apart. She still wore the ring, and he swore it would someday mark their marriage, but not yet.
Her feet danced in the water with Dratini as she began to take off the shorts she wore. She had on a bikini underneath and planned to swim. She had nothing better to do. The water, as sudden as her dive was, was cold, rising into her blood, freezing, but then slowly, less and less noticeable. Her hair was only to her fragile shoulders, but in the water danced as if it were much longer. She held her breath and swam, following Dratini to the tunnel at the bottom and through it. She was smiling inside as the baby pokemon suddenly swam at an incredible speed to the surface of the pool, too young to hold his breath for more than a minute, while she herself could go nearly three.
A sound from the large gym door made her start, causing her to conk her head on the roof of the tunnel. She, now with less air due to the impact, swam upwards herself, wondering who was there. The gym hours were over now, and she was certain the doors would have been locked.
At the surface she saw who it was, as Ash’s tall figure kneeled by the pool. He was smiling, much like he did when they were children themselves, as he took her hand and pulled her from the water. His facial features were soft, gentle, but at the same time strong, and powerful. His hair, no longer in a hat, but all together the same as it had been for years, was what brushed her cheek as he pulled her into an embrace she wasn’t expecting. “Mist, I missed you so much.”
“It’s only been two months Ash.” Misty said, peeling herself of him, laughing to herself at the large wet blotch she had left on his pants and shirt. Just a tee shirt and jeans, but more than enough to make her know he was handsome. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and, annoyed, blew at the strand of hair that had escaped her ponytail holder.
“Too long Mist, to see your face.” He was slowly peeling of his shirt and jumping into the pool, a shiver running through him quickly, and then ending suddenly. “Plus, we should see each other more, being engaged and all.”
“I don’t know how we could Ash.” Misty smiled dimly before watching him swim over and yank on her foot. She fell into the water, re-experiencing the refreshing chill. “Unless I moved in or something.”
“Well, I have a job offer in mind.” Ash said, suddenly going wide eyed and pulling his wallet from his back pocket, along with a flip phone. He laid them out to dry and sighed, noticing the question on Misty’s face. “Close your eyes.” He said, and following up her action, swam to the wallet and pulled out a card, plastic, and unharmed by the water. “Here.”
“What’s this?” Misty asked, reading the letters. “Elite Four Member. Ash, I’m not in the Elite Four.”
“Yes you are.” He said, watching her again look confused.
“Well, you kind of never lose to the poor little trainers, so you’re replacing the other water element member. He’s retiring and you’re going to come. Then we would see each other every day. There’s a huge pool much like this, so you wouldn’t lose that privilege, and you know that Daisy’s daughter, Rose, has been dying to take the gym from you.”
“This is amazing Ash.” Misty said, letting her hand glide over the smooth card. She felt the Dratini swim past her, brushing her stomach, and the blue gem that lay piercing it. It purred in delight as her hand slid over it’s body. “I don’t know what to say.”
“Well, how about, ‘“That rocks Ash! Let’s go see my new field!”’, would that be okay?”
“Yeah.” She said, unprepared for the real joy of the Elite Four, but willing to try. He took her hand and led her to a car, which carried them to the Pokemon League.
The room was like a giant pool, with posters of pokemon on the bottom of it, covered by a layer of glass. The walls were a light blue, the same as her eyes were, and had a border of Dratini and Dragonair along the ceiling. The ceiling itself was actually ocean blue, as if you could jump right into it. The room was in a diamond shape, with two doors. One leading in, and the other leading to the next member, the thunder room that was now run by Thundara, the thunder master. Master... All the Elite four were masters. Master Thundara; Master Argonia (Ground Master, Brock’s idol); and Master Jacques, the fire master. And Ash, leader of them all, a pokemon master. Did that mean that herself, Misty Waterflower, was the water master? Master of the waves and of the calm water? She thought about that as Ash smiled at her and took her hands. He twirled her around for just a moment and kissed her gently.
“So, Master Misty, how do you feel about this new job. The League called Rose and she was ecstatic about being gym leader, so don’t let her down.” She looked around once more, embracing the sweet smell of the room, not like her gym, full of chlorine, but sweet and salty, like the ocean itself was lying in her new home. She called it home, but it was just her workplace. She lived still, in Cerealeon, where she would probably have to use her Golduck’s teleport to get to work now every morning. The only day the League wasn’t open was on Sunday, and that was the only day off she would have.
She felt a kiss glide onto her lips, but was more involved in the man staring at her across the room. Ash sensed this and turned, now wondering why there was a man here after hours. The man looked to be the same age as them, wearing a purple hoody and a necklace with a Ying Yang on it. He had spiky brown hair that was a nice blend with is brown eyes. His hands were in the pockets of his jeans and by his leg was a Jolteon. It took Misty a moment, staring into his eyes deeply, but Ash right away realized it was Gary.
“What are you guys doing here?” Gary asked. He looked at the sign above the door that was lit up in brilliant neon colors. It said, ‘Water Field; Master Misty’. He was shocked enough by that, that seeing Ash, he wondered his greatest fears. “Wait, YOU are the water master? Misty? You look different, but heck, I could spot Ash’s ugly hair from the Hoen Region! So Ash, are you the Thunder Master, or just visiting?”
“Is that a serious question?” Ash asked blushing almost. He hadn’t known anyone who mistook him as the Thunder Master.
“Well duh, of course it is, do I look like I know anything about The League?” Gary asked annoyed. “Are you? Or are you visiting?”
“Gary,” Ash said, “The four Masters here are Master Thundara, Master Argonia, Master Jacques, and Misty. Which will probably end up Master Waterflower or Master Misteria before long...”
“So your friend became a Pokemon League Master, but not you? Ha, that’s pathetic.” Gary laughed, just as Ash held up an I.D. card specifically calling him the Pokemon League Champion Master. Gary’s jaw dropped.
“No way!” Gary snapped, looking again at the I.D. He looked at the two of them. “Change of topic. I was sure you two would have been married by now, are you dating?”
“Why would that matter?” Misty asked instead of answering.
“It doesn’t, but I haven’t seen you guys in a while, since I became a Johto Gym Leader. I just need info!”
“You just want unimportant information. But if it makes you happy, yes Gary, Me and Mist are dating.”
“Mist, when did you start calling her that?” Gary asked joking. “Is it because she’s so ugly?”
“Gary, don’t make me kick you ass.”
“Don’t worry Ash, Misty isn’t ugly, and Misty, that’s also to say that you’re very hot. I missed you more than Ash, that’s for sure. Maybe you’d rather date me?”
“Get lost Gary.” Misty said, but the thought lingered in her mind. Dating Gary? Why there would be logic to it was incomprehensible, but she did wonder about it. Would her life be better, closer to her love, if she was in love with Gary? No, she thought, I don’t love Gary, and never will.
Gary left them, and then Ash walked her home. He kept playing with her reddish orange hair. He didn’t intend to let her go. Not to Gary. Not then, not ever. If that meant that he had to get closer to her...why was he acting like that? He was acting like Gary was actually a threat to him! That was pathetic of him, because he knew Misty wouldn’t ever care about Gary like she did him. That was, if she still did care for him that much. Did she? He didn’t know, but he did know that she was still wearing the engagement ring, and that she swore she loved him when she accepted it.
That night Misty laid in her bed, wondering about all the Pokemon League had to offer. Was it really going to be that easy, just battling? Now she would be facing stronger trainers, and she would have to get stronger too. Although she knew that some times they would have to win, and sometimes they wouldn’t, there would be a lot of competition. She was ready for that. She wasn’t ready to consider herself a Master, when she could hardly call herself a Gym Leader just a year before. But alas, there was no way to turn back. She knew that she would see Ash a lot more now as well, which would be just what she wanted. She loved him. Didn’t she? She just knew really that she was the only girl he ever dated, and he called her his love for all time.
She would be the only Female Pokemon League Master, which would make some people, sexist people, think she was weaker. Those would be the people she would enjoy teaching a lesson. A good lesson.
She turned to her side and set her alarm for six, when she would have to get up to get to the league by 6:30. She then pulled the blankets up to her shoulders and proceeded to sleep, entranced in dreams of the next day, her first as an honorary Pokemon League Master.
