Free Bird

What’s up! You may remember me for “Ash Ketchum: Superman”, but I’m doing something else here. I’ve looked at what a lot of writers call “songfics”-a term I’m not using; I feels like calling it a “musical story”. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? Anyways, I was looking at some, and they all seem to have bubblegum pop lyrics. Where’s the rock? So, I came up with a brilliant idea: make my own. The song I’m using? FREE BIRD!!! I’ve heard the song a thousand times, and I got a brainstorm-since it’s about sweet freedom, I’ve decided to put it in an “AAML” (I think that’s what you call it) context. Too bad I can’t have that solo at the end. Oh, well. By the way, I’m using a phrase in this story that’s in Irish Gaelic. The phrase goes, “Thanum an Dhul”, and it means “Thunderin’ Jaysus.” Just so you know, the first word goes like “Tanum”, not in the way you’d think with the standard use for “th.”

Misty: 15

Yes, I am doing a non-Superman story.

Ash had just returned home another journey. When he got to his house, he was surprised to see someone there, waiting for him. It was Misty.

“Misty?”

“Hi, Ash.”

“How come you’re here?” He asked, trying not to sound annoyed.

“I came to tell you something, Ash.”

If I leave here tomorrow

Would you still remember me?

For I must be traveling on, now,

'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.

They both took a walk around Pallet, barely talking to each other. Finally, Misty broke the silence.

“I hear you made it to the championship match.”

“Yeah.” He replied. He wasn’t ashamed of it-hell, he was proud of it. This was the first time he had advanced that far in a major conference, not counting the Orange Islands.

“I hear you put up a fight.” She said.

“Yeah, I did! And I got real close, to!” He went on to tell her all about it. She giggled at a humorous comment he made.

But, if I stayed here with you, girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

She finally gathered up her courage and took a deep breath and said

“Ash, how long have we known each other?”

“About 5 years, why do you ask?”

“I’m just asking,” her courage slipping away for a moment. “I just felt like knowing, that’s all.”

“Oh.”

'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you cannot change.

“I’m leaving for another region soon.” He said. Her heart sank at this comment. It was getting dark now.

“Why?” She inquired. “Why do you need to go on another journey?”

“Because I still wanna be a Pokemon Master!” He said excitedly. Even after all these years, he’s still the same as always. She thought.

Oh…Oh...Oh… Oh… Oh...

And the bird you cannot change.

They stopped at a river. After a few seconds, they remembered what it was.

“This is the river where I first met you.” Said Ash.

“Yeah, I remember. And then you stole my bike!” She playfully scolded him for.

“I thought you used that as an excuse to get to know me better!”

“Best idea I’ve ever had!”

And this bird you cannot change.

Lord Knows I Can’t Change.

She decided that this was it. She was going to say it. Luckily for her, he set it up.

“Misty, what were you going to say to me, again?”

She hesitated a minute and then finally said, “What do you think of me, Ash?”

“I think you’re a great friend, Misty.” She took a deep breath and said,

“Ash, I’ve been meaning to tell you this, but-I love you!”

“Gee, tha-HUH!?” He said, surprised by her declaration, his jaw dropped all the way to the ground and his eyes as wide as basketballs.

“I love you, Ash!” She said back to him, her eyes filled with tears, now, and giving him a big bear hug, her head on his shoulders, crying her eyes out. Ash was as speechless as a brick. After a minute, he softened up and returned the embrace.

“Misty…” he said. She was afraid that he didn’t share the same sentiments as her, so she pulled away, only to feel him pull her towards him-and his lips met hers. She was just as surprised as Ash was at first, but then her eyelids closed and she deepened their kiss. After a while, he pulled away.

Bye, bye, Baby its been a sweet love.

Yea, yea

Though this feeling I can't change

“Misty…” he said, giving her shudders down her spine “I love you, too.” She was euphoric, and wrapped her arms around his neck, throwing him off balance somewhat.

“I’m so glad! I never thought you’d love me!” He wrapped his arms around her again, then she said something that made him shudder, “please stay in Cerulean with me.” He froze on the spot. He had no idea what to say.

“Mist…” he said, very hesitant. Her heart sank. She knew he wasn’t going to say yes. “I can’t,” Her heart sank even more. “ I still have a long way to go to become a Pokemon Master. I can’t just give up now.” He said, wiping a tear from her eye.

But please don't take it so badly,

'Cause the Lord knows I'm to blame

Her heart was broken. She didn’t know what to say. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. “I’m sorry.” He said. “I gotta keep goin’, but I will keep in touch with you, okay?” She couldn’t handle it. She was about to break down and cry. She started sobbing. To comfort her, he kissed her again. Her eyes closed and she felt a little better. He separated from her and said, “I gotta do this.” She was on the verge of crying.

But, if I stayed here with you girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

Cause I'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you cannot change.

Then, out of nowhere, she got an idea.

“Wait! Let me come with you!”

“Huh!?” His jaw dropped again. “Wait, wha?” He was speechless again.

“Please, Ash! My sisters have come back from their trip, (In this story, they have come back) I can come with you!”

“Misty, I-“ He was cut off when she said

“Please, Ash?” He thought about it for a minute, and then said,

“Okay.” And with that, she flung her arms around his neck again, and she kissed him. He was about caught off guard at first, but sank in to the kiss after a few seconds.

Oh…Oh...Oh… Oh…Oh….

Lord knows, I can't change.

Lord help me, I can't cha-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-nge.

After a few minutes, they separated. They looked into each other’s eye and said at the same time, “I love you” and embraced again. This was the happiest day of Misty’s life. Now she wouldn’t have to be separated from her love. Just then-

“Way to go, Ketchum!” The sudden noise jerked them out of their private little universe. Ash quickly turned his head around faster than you can say “out”.

“Who said that!?” He yelled. He found where the intruder was hiding when he saw some bushes rattling. He picked up a small rock and threw it at the bushes. It hit someone’s head.

“Ow! What’d you do that for, huh!?” It was (guess who) Gary.

“Gary!? What the hell are you doing here!?” Ash yelled at him.

“I saw you and Misty takin’ a walk so I decided to follow ya. Looks like I got my money’s worth!”

“Thanum an Dhul, can’t we have some alone time!? Wait, YOU WERE SPYING ON US THE WHOLE TIME!?” He yelled, completely furious that his little date with Misty was being interrupted.

“Yeah, and I got my money’s worth!” Said Gary. Ash was 3 seconds away from pounding the crap out of Gary, when Misty, equally mad, whacked him with her trusty mallet.

“That oughta teach you not to interrupt a romantic outing!” She scolded. She returned to Ash’s side and linked her arm around his other arm, saying, “Shall we go now?”

“After you.” He said, his arm motioning forward. As they walked by, Ash shook his head at the moaning heap hat was Gary Oak as the two walked back to Ash’s house.

Alright, how’d ev’rybody like it? If you’re wondering about that comedic section at the end, I could not resist. I did not want it to be a sappy romance-even though it was pretty romantic-all the way through, so I put some humor in there. Please send me a blasted review! And give me a review for “Ash Ketchum: Superman”, too. I have no idea what you people think about it, so I need some blasted feedback.
