THE CAPTAIN
Disclaimer:
I don’t own Pokémon, or the song ‘The Captain’ by Kasey Chambers.
Summary:
Misty sings a little song absentmindedly.
Speech.
Thoughts. Lyrics.
Misty
sighed as she relaxed into the deck chair. Now this was more like it... no travelling,
no arguments, and definitely no getting lost. “Lemonade, anyone?” Delia came
out with a tray of glasses. “Yes, please.”
Yep, it was just her, her best friends in the whole wide world, and a bottle of
lotion, hanging out in Ash’s backyard. ‘At
least I have somewhere to escape from the sister’s for a while.’ She sighed
again, and closed her eyes.
“Okay, does anyone have a Charizard?”
Ash looked around hopefully. “Nope.”
came the dull chorus from his friends as they sorted
through their card collections and came up empty. He was about to make another
request when a strange noise drifted to him through the air. It sounded like...
humming.
“Well I don’t have as many friends because,
I’m
not as pretty as I was...”
The
boys looked at each other, and over at Misty.
“I’ve kicked myself at times because I lied.” Her
voice was wavering slightly, unsure of itself, but suddenly got stronger.
“So I will have to learn to stand my ground,
I’ll
tell ‘em I won’t be around,
I’ll
move on over to your town and hide.” Misty’s voice got stronger, and more confident.
“And you be the captain
And
I’ll be no-one
And
you can carry me away if you want to.” Delia came outside as Misty’s voice started to carry further.
“And you can lay low
Just
like your father, and if
I
tread upon your feet, you just say so
‘Cos
you’re the captain, I am no-one
I
tend to feel as though I owe one to you. To you.”
By
now, everyone was captivated by the slightly harsh lilt that was suddenly in
Misty’s voice. They’d never heard her like this before...
“Well, I have handed all my efforts in
I
searched here for my second wind
Is
there somewhere here to let me in, I asked.” Her voice suddenly got a touch of
bitterness.
“So I slammed the doors they slammed at me
I
found the place I’m meant to be
I
figured out my destiny, at last.”
Her voice went sweet again as she started on what they figured to be the
chorus. Pikachu’s ears slowly twitched to the beat that Misty’s voice seemed to
create.
“And you be the captain
And
I’ll be no-one
And
you can carry me away, if you want to
And
you can lay low
Just
like your father, and if
I
tread upon your feet, you just say so
‘Cos
you’re the captain, I am no-one
I
tend to feel as though I owe one to you. To you.”
Misty
sat up slightly as the beat changed, and sadness could be seen across her face
as she removed her sunglasses.
“Did I forget to thank you, for the ride
I
hadn’t tried, I tend to run away, and hide.” She settled back down and smiled to
herself.
“And you be the captain
And
I’ll be no-one
And
you can carry me away, if you want to
And
you can lay low
Just
like your father, and if
I
tread upon your feet, you just say so
‘Cos
you’re the captain, I am no-one
I
tend to feel as though I owe one to you.”
Her
voice suddenly got harsh.
“‘Cos
you’re the captain, I am no-one
I
tend to feel as though I owe one to you.” Misty’s voice slowed down and got
much softer and wistful.
“‘Cos
you’re the captain, and I am no-one
And
I owe one, to you.”
Misty
sighed deeply before looking around to see where the clapping was coming from.
“Er, why are you guys clapping?” she
asked nervously, raising an eyebrow. “That
was beautiful.” Delia exclaimed, wiping her eyes on her apron. “Yeah, I didn’t know you could sing like
that, Myst.” Ash looked at her in awe. Misty sweat-dropped. “Er, ‘sing’? I was, singing?” She
blushed deeply as everyone nodded. “Oh,
um, sorry, I guess I kinda, tuned out for a moment
there.” “You should do that more
often, then.” Brock whistled. “Yeah,
your voice is amazing. You should consider singing professionally.” Tracey
breathed, awestruck. Ash nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, with a voice like that, you could be a famous singer, or
something, hey Pikachu?” “Pika!” Misty blushed even deeper. “Um, thanks guys, but, I’d rather not. You see, I can only really sing,
when I don’t even know I’m doing it, like just then. I think it’s just,
shyness, or something, but, still...” Delia nodded. “That’s a shame, because you have a beautiful voice, dear.” Misty
blushed again as her friends all nodded in agreement. “Um, thanks.”
THE
END
That
was a little on the short side, and kinda rough. The
idea popped into my head when I was listening to Kasey’s, ‘The Captain’ album.
I annoyed my family by putting the song on repeat for inspiration. I’ll leave
it up to you to decide who exactly she had in mind when singing this song...
Please insert favourite ship here. This isn’t my first song-fic idea, but it is
the first I’ve written, so be gentle...
AUSSIE WOLF.
